Abs Stc And Cruise Failed!

 So last night I'm getting on the highway (17 mile commute), not gunning it or anything and all of a sudden the ABS, STC both light up, meaning they're disabled. The car still drove fine and brake were good but obviously I didn't have abs or traction. The weird thing is that I lost my cruise control too! Here's what I did when I got home.

1. Turned the car off then on, ABS still disabled but STC was not.

2. Checked all fuses and relays...they were fine.

3. Disconnected the battery for 15 mins.

4. Reconnected battery and went for a short drive on the highway.

Now today I came to work, no issues, no warnings, cruise works.

Dude?! WTF?!

Did my car just have a mood swing???

Sounds like an ECM issue. Have you gotten the update at the dealer?

I did but that was almost a year ago. I know someone at the local dealer that can look at it, outside normal hours which is nice. I'm just so paranoid about what the cost will be. Especially since I'm pretty technically inclined, I would hate to see a 500.00 bill for something that would cost me about 80.00. You know?

I'll get them to re-flash it.

One other weird thing is that the manual says it'll trip (ABS/STC) if there is high brake temperature and the front right is dusting more than the rest. Hmmm...

Same thing happened to me as well about 6 months ago but i have a 2000 V70R and i was told it was the ABS module, I am not sure about the C70's but i know the abs modules are some what notorious for having problems. I think all volvo's from 1996 - 2001 or something have bad abs modules. Honestly i would not worry about it until they come on again and stay on. Here are couple of the places that people recommended that would cost up to $135 for the rebuild of the ABS module vs $800 at the dealer.

Here is a link to the thread that i had on V70R.com, hope this helps.

+1. 99% probable an ABS module issue. Victor has a good rep for rebuilding these.

My ABS light has come on about three times in the last two weeks without warning as well. I noticed it will turn off when the ignition is turned off for a few mins and then restarted. Did you notice any different feeling while shifting? I had what felt like a little bite from the pads going into second.

Agreed on the ABS module...cruise failed due to no speed sensor signal which all runs through the module. However I don't think Vic can repair the modules w/ STC however I'm not 100% positive on this. I would contact him. His service for me has been outstanding over the past few years!

;)
