wait i just read some thing.... doesnt water cool better that coolant? hmmm interesting and the head gasket is fine  i think....

mike

Yes and no. It will cool better up the the point it boils. So assuming your system can hold enough pressure it will offer more BTUs of cooling. But straight water plays hell on a cars cooling system.

ok so even if i did drive my car like a nut... and the relay fan actually worked then my car would have been fine? but since the cooling fan relay was bad and i had a leak and i had to sit in traffic (i hate LA) it over heated.

Agreed

coolant keeps the water from boiling but also keeps the water from freezing.

and yes it does play hell on the system but only if you run it for a long long time for a few weeks no problems

car coolant also has some inhibitors from the water eating the engine from the inside out.

City water is better for the car up to a certian point same deal with well water best water would be botteled water.

yeah your car would of been perfect ;)

Agreeed

And if the engine did have 10k on it wich I find hard to belive you could put that in and beat the hell out of it right off the back and nothing would go wrong.

that and the over heating phhh sorry you can put pure water in and the car wont over heat , I wonder how I know , oh wait my car right now is pure water and still runs cool . (trying to find a leak dont want to waste money on coolant)

Car only over heats for a few reason

Fan control broken

Thermostate is bad

Bad headgasket

shitty engine build

engine built by moron

engine installed by moron

I might be missing one or two but you get my point

so your car is leaking coolant, and you believe that you did a good job installing the engine? ;) fan relay being bad can cause it to overheat

false, hard water deposits will monkey your day.

only distilled :)

only a drip or two hear and then .

not a stream

I think its the hose off the turbo but not 100% sure I have a new on at the dealer waiting for me .

its stupid to fill the car up with perfect fluids when you start it up for the fist time who knows where there might be a leak.

just fill it up with cheap stuff , Oil , Tranny fluid and water and such let it run for a few minuts make sure theres no leaks and drain it out , at least the tranny fluid .

so you admit that you can miss things when installing an engine, three times, within two weeks? ;) devil's advocate Justin, just gotta point it out.

oh yeah with out a doubt you will miss stuff I will never argue that fact at all .

The Rear engine mount  NO B)

small leaks and a tightening up a clamp yes.

I did a two day one and forgot to tighten the clamp on the intake and wonder why it was blowing black smoke and running like ass.

and on my R forgot to tighten up the clamp comming from the turbo to the charge pipe wonder why I had no boost.

Yeah you will miss stuff if your in a hurry and have no chance to test run it .

only distilled :)

I will argue that fact due to distilled will remove elements from your car and eat away at the engine since its a negative ( cant rember correct term)

its one of the major reason why you shouldnt drink distilled water , its acutally really bad for you .

Yeah, definitely...we had leaks and crap on my car when we did the engine swap twice, but it gets sorted out over time...easy test drives and stuff....point is, you have to have the time to diagnose things before driving long distances and pushing the car right out of the garage, which wasn't allowed in this case either.

Baker, you really should get the car checked out somewhere. If you want the number of my Volvo guys out there, hit me up. They are great, and can do compression tests, diagnosis, and will spend alot of time with you answering questions. I've got a guy in Torrance (Los Angeles), and a guy in Rancho Cucamonga (near Riverside just up the 15).....seriously, just take the biatch over, and let them have at it. I would recommend the guy in Torrance first if you can make it up there. It might be worth the couple hundred to get it diagnosed 100% right. It very well could be something minor. Just shoot me a message, and head on over. It could be worth your while.

from teh interwebs

For critical cooling applications you are basically looking to prevent scale formation on heated or cooled surfaces. The typical scale components of "hard" water are magnesium and calcium carbonates; these compounds have a narrow band of solubilities in water as dependent on temperature--if the temperature is heated above 90C or cooled below 2C the carbonates tend to precipitate out of the water and deposit on your expensive equipment as a scale deposit. Scale reduces the coolant flow and disrupts the transfer of heat in the system, both undesirable and potentially damaging conditions. Distilled water is probably sufficient for your application and is much less expensive than deionised water. Also, the dissolved gasses and small amount of ionic load inherent in distilled water will help to protect your metal contact surfaces from corrosion by the water.

Do you even read what you write lol.

Its an AL block not the human body. It does not need calcium and sodium to grow up big and strong.

shoot I am on number 6 for the year and I forgot simple items like that .

all i have done for the past 6 months is swap volvo engines <_<

Just to point out what a great guy Baker is... Here's his FS thread for his car...

http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.php?showtopic=98423

Notice how he tells you all the problems he mentioned in this thread????

UPDATE!!!! ordered all the parts to take care of the oil leak and to fix the coolant leak, the radiator relay fan was the problem so that works now and the car is running strong!!!!

mike

Hmmm, seems like everything is tip-top now, huh? So what the problems again? GL with the sale now son.

you should really stop nut swinging from your man and let him handle it.

you're pretty much proven yourself to be incapable of handling complaints on his behalf with your poor display of automotive knowledge when it comes to engine mechanics and how a car is supposed to work.
