Sharkey Posted July 1, 2008 Report Share Posted July 1, 2008 Hey All! I've got a 97 850R that has a failed auto trans. Got a quote locally here in the high teens to replace. Anyone willing to offer assistance in replacement? I've got extensive experience with watercooled vws and have done the t-belt/wp/serp belt service on this car along with a host of other things. I'd consider myself fairly proficient in auto repair having done motor swaps on my vws. If not a job for the do-it yourselfer, can you recommend a shop to replace? What is yoru skill level and what other work have you done on your car in the past ? I did six engine/tranny swaps so far this year so .... Oversized garage with plenty of room to work. I've done the t-belt/wp/serp service on the 850. On my last VW Scirocco I swapped the stock 1.7L for a 1.8L with transfer of the transmission. Also swapped the entire interior (except carpet) on that car including the dash along with installing power windows with factory harness from a parts car.
