Rug Doctor - Anyone Ever Try This?

Recommended Posts

I have this '01 V70 and the previous owner must have had a pack of dogs because the interior is trashed. The seats are thrashed (going to get them repainted), and the carpets are ridiculously dirty. Even the headliner is dirty.

My quesiton is whether or not anyone has ever tried renting a Rug Doctor for interior detailing? My car really needs to have an extractor/steamer used on it, but if I can rent a rug doctor and spend an afternoon working at it I will be content (the rug doctor comes with an upholstery attachment that should work). Thoughts?

Here is the attachment Rug Doctor

I've used them. I hated them. They're just so heavy and bulky. They dont leave carpet very dry. The chemicals are so expensive and not very effective. You have to you a de-foamer to keep the machine from bubbling over with soapy foam. They're just a mess.

I bought this:

Bissell Pro Heat Cleaner

In the long run you own it, it will pay for itself, and the solutions are so much cheaper, more effective, better smelling and easier to use.

It's a lot easier to manoeuvre around. Oh and it cleans house carpets and furniture excellently too. If done in the summer, everything will be dry and fresh in an hour or two.

I was worried that it would be difficult to maneuver but thought I would give it a shot. However, all that other stuff is kind of turning me off to the idea.

im sure a simple carpet shampoo/vacuum from a local hand car wash would suffice.

Thats what I was initially thinking but this car is super dirty. Just think of an MMORPG player's whitey-tighties after a summer of gaming, X3, and thats pretty much what we are dealing with. I guess its not to expensive though so its worth a shot. It would suck to feed $15 into one of those machines and then end up having to pay for a detail anyways ><

i imagine you'd get the idea after the first $3 if it's gonna work or not. i'd probably give up after that...but thanks for the imagery...i totally wanted to retaste my lunch

Oh man. Does anyone want this shrimp fettuccine alfredo I just made??!

I've lost my appetite.

Lol, sorry if I hit you guys with that mental image during the lunch hour! I just wanted to elucidate the severity of the problem... $3 for the brown bear soup vac it is! Hopefully the interior scent will vanish once I get it all cleaned up...

What is it with people and turning their wagons into homes for their dogs :excl::monkey: ?

hmmm....Rug doctor.....that could open a can or worms

I was initially worried about damaging shit because the doctor soaks everything, but its hotter than africa here in seattle so I figured on that note that I would be fine.

My next door neighbors are those type of people. They have a '97 850 GLT wagon that always has one of their border collies in it. I can't stand those people sometimes. I'm just happy their house is for sale. I can't imagine what the inside of their home looks like.

And I don't know how good those machines are, but I seriously doubt, especially now with your description that you'll be happy with the results of a coin-op cleaner. before/after pics would be awesome. :P

I will get some before/after, even if I go the detail route, just for entertainment :D I work at a Ravenna Volvo here in Seattle and you would be surprised how many people literally destroy their cars by giving their beasts and brood free roam over the interiors. We have dogs chewing turn signal stalks off, seat belts, bluetooth panels, you name it. Its absolutely disgusting; you can literally see the film of dried drool over everything.

u should probably bring your own brush with stiff bristles to back up the coin-op shampoo/brush dispenser.

Ill bring something out of that show "Sanford and Son!"

Pull the seats out

Pull the carpet out

Highpressure wash at car wash

Done ;)

Just did that last week amazing

that or get a local carpet cleaning company to do everything for you with a truck mounted machine

maybe $100 to do the whole car ;)

Thats a really good idea; the carpet is not even that difficult to get out. Only hard part will be the headliner and cargo area, but I am sure that I can just handle that using the foam fac at brown bear while I pressure wash the carpet.
