Beginning Of My 850 Install

This is only the beginning of my massive project.

First: the design, an aperiodic bi-chamber, designed for maximum SQ.

Next is the mostly cut Stack 'o' Wood . Had to cut the long pieces using the circular saw and straight edge method due to our crappy table saw.

Wave guide round over.

Loaded chamber's brace drying with some waveguides attached.

Baffle...Yes, I know my car needs to be cleaned.

Our quality control kitten making sure everything is glued properly. Having 3 drills is great for getting screws in.

That's about it for now, sorry, no installed pics yet, but I will try to get some tomorrow. It sounds great once the 880 reset the EQ.

HOLY

I am way confused please explain in your wisdom of box building becuase I have never seen anything like that :o

Lots of clamps, lots of glue, and lots of waiting. 2 bar clamps, 2 corner clamps, I also had a friend come help with the build, having 2 people makes a big difference in how well a build goes together. Next on the list is more deadening for the rear hatch, and some on the doors and roof (believe it or not, my roof does flex a bit even though this is a SQ design), then some fiberglass door pods to house 2 3" TangBand wide ranges (per side), and some 8" midbass (not sure what quite yet). Tweeters will be going in the A pillars. I can't take credit for the box design (as you probably have figured out already), I got it from Pete Kulicki (http://www.pwkdesigns.com) for $50 (well worth it might I add), if you don't feel comfortable building yourself, he has a full wood shop and will build it for you.

screw SQ. I build for MAX SPL... what sub, and amp combo are you going with. how much powa. and may i suggest... wood glue, and staples. it's soo much easier when building a box like that. (it'll be fine. since your not going for SPL)

Pic of the installed item, there is no interior in the back of my car right now, it will be put back when I am finished.

All amps are Audison (LRx 1.400 and SRx4, might be getting a SRx2s as well), the woofer is an Acoustic Elegance C12.1.

agreed! It also looks like it weighs a ton!

It really isn't that big, I have a friend who has a 15 cubic foot 6th order for his Cavi that took 3 sheets of MDF to build. To get it in and out, the seats, center console and passenger side door have to come off, and it weighs approximately 190 pounds (the woofer alone weighs 90 or so)

Tell these punks Chas, it's all bout the sound qual. ;);)

The way I see it is:

I drive a Volvo, a luxury car, keeping with the luxury theme, SQ complements quite nicely. If you want SPL, get a CRX, Panda or 2 door Explorer, otherwise stay away from my car. Secondly, I value my hearing. Thirdly, SQ installs are rarer in these parts than my car is (I have only seen 2 850/V70s). Fourthly, I buy things for my own and friends (when they are with me) enjoyment, not for the person driving beside me or somebody on a sidewalk. And lastly, who would want to steal a SQ setup?

I may come off as a bit elitist/stuck up in this post, but this is just the way I feel about the subject.

Nice box! How do you find the audison amps? My friends have had nothing but problems. Maybe thats just in Australia?

I'm a bit on a DIY SQ head myself, good to see another out there.

Cheers,

Kirbo.
