Every time I look up a Volvo compression test, it's always the people with horrible compression (90-125). I was wondering what VS has on their cars. Hopefully better!

Especially the 98/99 split. I'm guessing this has to do with the electronic throttle module, but why is that so important that we split the 850/x70 into two sections when they share so much? I propose that the sections be divided by platform.

P80 (850/x70)

P1 (s40/v40)

P2 (s80/v70/s60)

I'm at an impass here. I wish I was in the market for BBK's but I can't afford it with work needed on my car and my wife's...and I plan on going back to school for more teaching extensions.

For the time being, I have decided to rebuild the stock front and rear calipers, and put in the brackets to put 302's on my 98 C70. That should get me through until I can find a better setup that I can afford.

While I have everything apart, I decided to paint the calipers and hangers to prevent further rust and corrosion. The question is...what color??? I don't want to go red because I think there's no point unless I'm going to the "big reds". It would look ridiculous.

My coupe is saffron, and I plan to paint my canistos anthracite (gun metal) after I straighten them a bit.

I've narrowed my choices down to...

anthracite

black

silver

saffron (or as close as possible)

Personally, I fucking despise them. There's a difference between loud and obnoxiously loud. A stock bike of almost any make typically isn't very loud, it's the dickbags that buy them that make it that way. Around here it's unevenly divided into two groups.

1. The logo bikers/weekend warrior Harley riders. Usually the guy that's a pussy in real life but plays dressup and has a HD logo on every piece of riding gear. Likely wears Khakis during the week.

2. Sportbike crowd. Not as many as the Harley group and not nearly as loud unless they putz around at 12k rpm. Most of them aren't loud, just a few.

I had a bike a long time ago and just bought another, personally I don't buy into the "loud pipes save lives" bullshit. Fact of the matter is you're on a bike and don't stick out as much as a car. You gotta act like they don't see you.

The only reason I posted this is because there was some jackass outside of the post office sitting there just revving the shit out of his bike, in the snow.

I already purchased an HID kit for my headlights on my 98 C70. I don't have the box with me, I think they are 8000K.

I am doing a bunch of work coming up, and I just feel like adding to the list. I may....may convert the fog lamps to HID as well. Here's where I'm stuck though...What color to buy

I've seen cars driving around with matching color HIDs....I think it looks sharp (but that's me driving towards them, not seeing the practical application of bluish fog lights though. Fog is a problem where I live several months out of the year.)

I'm also under the belief that yellow fog lights pierce through the fog better. I'm also used to old school fog lamps being yellow (Believe it or not, I don't think I've seen any vehicles around here with Bluish HID headlamps and yellow HID fogs)

Thoughts?...constructive ones please . I really could care less how stupid you think this is.

After I purchased my 98 C70, my brother kept opening his VW door into my bumper, chipping the paint all over the place.....so nice of him. It didn't look that good anyway because the previous owner had the bumper sprayed over, which was a really shi**y job.

Fast forward 7 years...I think it's time, especially since my bumper was so nicely smashed on Tuesday.

My local stealership wants $700+ for a stock c70 bumper (cover only) painted in my color. My buddy that owns a autobody shop can't do any better because he gets it for the same discount that I do...and he can't get it painted in saffron for some strange reason.

Looking around online, I found some interesting alternatives to the stock c70 bumper that I think would look great. I'm not trying to cop anyone's style.

Option 1: "R" bumper. I found it for a descent price from Viva Performance. I like it both for the looks and the price. I'm not wild about the fact that this seems to be a common swap. after looking through the pics of the C70s thread.

Option 2: V70 XC "Stubby" bumper. I've only seen this done on the one C70 shown in the pic below. I've come across an S70 too. I think this looks HOT! It's different, which makes it appealing to me... Problem...stealership said it won't fit (I can't understand why)...and couldn't get a price. After looking at this C70 though...I think it looked better in my head.

Either way, I'll have to change the fog lights, which is cool. I didn't like the pitting and overspray that I couldn't get off of these anyway. BUT....What else would I have to replace??? Vents, styrofoam, brackets???

Option 3: go with a stock C70 bumper...maybe put an S40 lip

I'd love to hear what others have to say about the subject!

I currently have a stage 0'd 850r with a blue tune, 18t, r mani, ard pulley, msd, all along with the appropriate gauges. Na cams and aquamist will be done this summer, along with ipd springs and complete suspension refresh that is waiting to go in.

So here are my options

A. H-beams... Which I guess might end up being a hone, new rings, head-gasket, head-bolts, cam seals, sealant, intake gasket, and anything else I didn't list due to a lack of research. Possibly a timing belt kit while it's out.

B. M56h

I'm confident in doing both my self barring the hone. Did my rms and had to remove the intermediate block to get machined so I have a decent knowledge of how things go together. Betting most of you will say manual, although I'm leaning towards rods due to the fact that I really like the idea of a slightly larger turbo with an aggressive tune and no worries of engine carnage. Or just being able to stomp on my 18t. Then again, my auto may not be able to handle much more than 300whp.

I'm more or less searching for any good reasons against option A that I'm not seeing, not just "manual is fun". I don't have enough money to do both right away, so I'm worried about any unforeseen issues/expenses with option A. What do you ladies think?
