Understood, i know a few people running mE7 w/ an MBC with NOO problems

There's a guy on here running 21lbs on an s80t6 :) Also have used it on my buddys 01 v70t5 and worked fine

21 lbs? Sheeiittt, I need to get me some of that!

You guys think this fix wold work on an S80 (knowing that you guys don't know much about the car) I gotta believe that it should, maybe I'll give it a try with some newly acquired funds. haha.

Please let me know who the guy with a 21lbs S80 T6 is, I wanna talk to him and see if his Tranny Bombed yet.

Should be able to get all the connecters you need from any salvage yard. IT is a common GM connector. Chop off the factory volvo one and splice in the Female GM piece. I go to the local pullapart sometimes and just get connectors. Whatever looks good. Have a box full of them. They come in handy for everything. I am such a packrat. Bought a complet Grand Prix GTP blower the other day from the pullapart for a whopping $10 bucks. None of the employees knew what it was. Told em it was the upper intake from a v6 pontiac.

Chad

Chad, thanks for checking in(since your mention of the Delco solenoid on IPD TCV thread is what started this thread). Some of us would prefer to leave the factory wiring intact and would rather not chop off anything. So far NEU and I have been to the junkyard and we have not found the "other end" of the DIY harness to be commonl(not without modifying the connector anyways). The pigtail that plugs into the Delco solenoid is common though, I hit paydirt on 10 out of 15 GM cars.

you guys are probably spending more $$ in gas driving around to junk yards than what it cost brand new shipped to you. I think mine was all of 6 bucks to my door.

I was actually considering buying the Delco solenoids in bulk and offering the solenoid+pigtails as a kit to the WRX guys lol.

  • 4 weeks later...

Seems to be a very popular thing to do now...:D:lol: I know I've gotten a lot of questions about doing it. Best bang for your buck and def cheaper the IPD....

Anyone had success on the older cars?

Just to throw the info around out here on this topic: When installing the gm boost control solenoid with a megasquirt the ecu triggers the ground side. So hookup the hot side constant (with an inline fuse) and then the negative side goes to the corresponding pin on MS...S2 on my relay board.

Installed one of these today - just to add, the polarity of the solenoid is the reverse of the Volvo unit...

...so make sure you end up with the adapter harness oriented so...

the orifices on this unit are a fraction larger - 1/8" vs 7/64", not enough to quantify the change people have claimed, and compared to a new Volvo TCV (that I already have, see pic) , I can't say there's any appreciable difference in onset or maintaining boost - so, I'd assume those who've felt a large difference must have had weak OEM valves. It's certainly a cheaper alternative.

nice pics, hussein, and welcome to the delco club.

I believe I have wired my 2 harnesses with the polarity the same way as yours, but i don't think the polarity matters:

Thanks for starting this thread, and documenting your installation, BTW.

It may still function, the question would be longevity. typically components are not tagged "+" if polarity is not relevant to the life/functionality of the component. If we had a GM schematic with a cross section of the internal coil design, it would be easier to be sure. Since it's questionable, I prefer to err on the side of caution. :)

I found the polarity by looked at the wire harness in the car and then matched it with the (+) and (-) colors of the used Delco wire harness.

My original TCV was on it way out, this really did wake up the boost, it was very sluggish before, under 2K rpm and higher rpm, if yours in fairly new I'm sure your results are not as impressive as mine. ;)

I just matched red with red and black with black... car boosts fine. ...though looking at what you say it should be, my wires are crossed.

What would changing the polarity change?

If the winding within the coil it flow sensitive, it will damage the coil, it's not just an on/off switch.
