jo346820
Hey all, Just curious...if an engine is in good running condition, under proper maintenance and running within normal specs:Is there any damage or negative affect of running high in the rpm range?I.e. In the post about the italian tune-up...or at least improving compression....Rich said to change plugs and oil and run at 5500 rpm for 12 minutes...Wouldn't this risk some sort of damage?I've always kind of wondered this...because I know cars are built to handle up to red line RPMs...but I feel like it increases engine wear dramatically or something (: -Joe
Bay13
I've done many Italian tune ups, I always watch the temperature, and it has never gone up nor has anything happen to the engine. The 5500 rpm doesn't cause any harm to the engine, it's under load, you are driving. Don't try doing it in park or neutral (unloaded).
WhiteT5
If anything, it's good for the engine to run it under load sometimes. It can help blow carbon buildup out and as long as the engine is healthy to begin with, there shouldn't be any problems.
