I should mention that I cannot hear the noise if the ipod is not plugged in but the stereo is in the CD Changer position. It is hardly noticable at a low volume, but I'm pretty attentive to sound quality and I can still hear it, especially at medium levels. What could be wrong with my installation?Thanks. Some people have blamed it on the grounding of the unit, but after trying many difference places, the noise remains. Perhaps this noise exists in all USA SPEC units and some of us are just too 'old' to hear it? no offense. I'm still under the 30-day warranty from Crutchfield. Maybe I should just return it and buy the IMIV. What do you guys think?The PA-11 is a good adapter, not sure why people have been getting noise with it installed. If you go the IMIV route it is a sweet adapter, not sure if it has any additional feature gains for your application. No personal experience with the unit. I remember USA-spec had different firmware upgrades for the adapters addressing in some cases noise issues. It must be substantial if you can hear it over the idle of your car, I wouldn't live with it either. Check to make sure the adapter body is not coming into contact with any chassis metal, and if you got some extra wire run the power to the battery terminal. Chexjc Posted August 13, 2008 Author Report Share Posted August 13, 2008 I spoke with a tech person at USA SPEC yesterday and was informed that the noise is "normal." He asked me to verify that the noise stopped when changing songs and for the first 5 seconds of the new song (and it did). He explained to me that the noise is a result of the ipod charging. When the ipod is charging, the charging process interferes with the audio and causes the noise. When you press the 'next track' button on the ipod, the ipod momentarily stops charging and does not begin again until 5 seconds or so into the song. I remembered reading a thread on a USA SPEC interface that talked about disabling the 'charging-of-the-ipod' compenent. Apparently, that would get rid of the noise. I'm actually pretty content now that I know the sound is "normal." I've decided to keep the USA SPEC interface...mainly because the IMIV interface will cost an extra $60 to buy the cables that are not included. But also because I'm tired of removing my radio .The noise is not as bad as anyone reading this is probably imagining though. I only ever notice it on soft acoustic songs with the volume in the mid range. I still recommend the product. It's far superior to the job any FM transmittor can do, haha.
