Jeph430
I've heard with HID's it isn't good to start the car with them on. Doing so allows them to start up for a brief second then turn back off while the car cranks before coming back on. I can imagine this adds stress to the bulb and components. I usually leave my headlight switch in the on position no matter what so they are always on when I'm driving, what do you do?

Not sure if there is added stress to the ballasts or bulbs from what you described above, but I would think it would make sense that there is. scubthebub
my original bulbs only lasted about 2 years, which seems too short for me. I now turn the cars parking lights on, start the car, then turn the switch to the day or night setting. I am looking at a different lighting source for daytime running lights to avoid this. Chilled man
I drive like this during the day every day . Rather burn out bulbs then somone one not see me and pull out in front of me But then at night drive with the low beams and fogs both HIDs on . But maybe if I didnt run the fogs during the day it would give me a exucse to use the HORNS more offten

Two BMW over 10 years never burned a bulb, 850 has had them since 2001 never burned a bulb, truck has always had them never burned a bulb.

b3atboxjr
I added a relay tied to my ebrake so the headlights (HIDs) won't come on till I disengage my ebrake. This goes well with my habit of always setting the ebrake when i park, because I start the car with it engaged, thus no HID shock just before starting the engine. Also have a little bypass switch in case I ever want the HIDs on while the car is just sitting there with the engine off. This is the way to go IMO ;)
7 VII 7
when it is dark out... I turn them onwhen it is light out... I turn them offwhy would you have them on during the day?.... "representin'" what a joke
s70turbo1998
On all the time. HIDs actually fare better when constantly on. Even if you are turning your lights on and off a lot, there probably isn't much of a difference in life.

khax
i don't have HIDs but my headlights are always on. all it's gonna do is add to the chance of someone seeing me. i imagine when i get my HIDs they will be on just as much.

DonutsDemise
I have my lights on whenever I'm driving but I turn them off before I turn off the car and don't turn them on until I have started the engine... but for some reason, when I put them in my T5 they flash when I lock my car and the halogens didn't. I haven't investigated it yet but I can't think of a reason why they would if they plug into stock harness and I wired them the same way as I did in my old car <_<
