s_moneh
i sooo wanna do this badly! 1 question tho, what happens to the stock intercooler? once u removed the piping does it just sit there as deadweight? anyway to get rid of it?and to OP did you remove your bumper to mount the intercooler or is there no way to do it without removing the bumper? i dont wanna remove part of my body i'm afraid i wont get it to line up to stock like when i took my first ever bumper off on my old 850 :(
Auburn T5
i left mine in until I had to replace my radiator. at that point, I pulled the stock IC also. now there's just about an inch and a half or so gap between the radiator and AC
s_moneh
so u can essentially pull it during the fmic install?
Oreo931
I didn't take off my bumper the first time I did this. But I will admit, it was mounted with metal wire, which is very ghetto. To properly mount this you will want to remove the front bumper and support. But like I said, you can get around it. The stock intercooler you can leave in or take out, whatever you prefer. The piping obviously gets removed since you have new piping going to the new front mount.

jdschmidt
well I got the hot side done in 2.5 without any problems really. Only took a few minutes. Now on to the cold side..I am thinking this is where the 2.5 comes in being a pain?

gilber33
Were anyone's reducers super tight on the smaller end? Mine are, but they appear to be 2.25, I measured them. They're just really tight around the pipes, but the straight couplers are just fine. And lookforjoe, what did you use again to mount your intercooler? I have my spot all cut out, I just need to go to home depot or something tomorrow to find something to mount it with.
jdschmidt
well, it was all going good..probably too good. I went to add the 90 degree on to the turbo coupler, and there is no way it will work with the 2.5"..so I will have to get a 2.5>2" one somwhere..Do plumbing stores sell couplers like these? I think I heard that somewhere..I might just have to order one. But I got all the piping ran, alls I need to add is the 90 and the cut J pipe. I am still rocking the stock piping for now though, as this is my DD and I gotta get to work tomorrow haha. shoulda started this on the weekend like a smart person. also gotta add, I didn't have 1 problem with the 2.5" other than the coupler..if anyone ever decides to run 2.5"...Just took a little more persuasion to get them where they needed to be. BTW oreo, my dad decided to try and help me and was BEYOND confused when I gave him the rundown on what I was doing. Showed em your OP and he was impressed with the write up (as was I) Thanks so much for doing it. I know for sure I wouldn't have done this if it wasn't for you Here is where I am at now..car is a little rough, gives it character haha.
Black Betty
I'd like to see your car in better pics. Looks to be flat black? Also I will add when you add in IPD's phenolic spacer the piping it a major PIA to route by the alternator. I'll have to measure mine to see if its 2.5 or 2.

Cut down "L" brackets w/ captive nuts - they are from 200/700 alt/ps belt tensioner brackets, since I already had them. You want captive nuts, or it's a PITA. Oreo931
The CX Racing kit comes with brackets to install the intercooler. I just used those and they worked fine.

I just used those and they worked fine. But the brackets are just straight, I need something at an angle. My intercooler is 9" tall, so I have to install it similar to lookforjoe
