Ipd's Heavy Duty Turbo Control Valve

can you please explain more. i'd really like to understand better how your car changed. i dont have a turbo gauge myself.

on my car i feel the turbo needs lots of time to spool up - annoying at low rpm but after 2500-3000 rpm it goes really strong. i guess that's normal for the big turbos on s60, that's the character pf the car, different from a LPT.

do i understand right that your turbo kicks in earlier? i'd love that on my car. any downsides at higher rpm?

hey, why IPD does not write explicitly about this. i got the impression their TCV is just more durable than the OEM but does not change your engine working in any way.

thanks for your thoughts!

Basically boost comes much smoother and earlier

Before lets say you shift at 2500rpm if you had a gauge you would see that it would be somewhere around 0-5 psi with ipd tcv boost is already rushing towards 10psi

Gas pedal is more responsive towards boost (1/4 throttle and there is boost already forming )

Hope that explains it

My Solenoid TCV broke as the old '95 plastic got brittle, I purchased a replacement and swapped it out at the same time as I Upgraded to IPD ECU. Great improvement but my gas mileage went way down so before blaming IPD I glued the old Volvo TCV back together and I was happy as the performance went up and got 20 Mi/gal.

Lucky from IPD told me that the IPD TCV did not work on the 855 so I finally researched around and found several pages on the ACDelco 214-474, made reference to 850s and V70s.

So I went out and purchased the connectors from Ballenger

http://www.bmotorsports.com/shop/product_i...roducts_id/1010 $4.99 + shipping

http://www.bmotorsports.com/shop/product_i...products_id/570 $4.25 + shipping

Purchased the 214-474 for $30 with shipping.

A few inches of wire for the converter harness... I crimped and soldered the connectors.

I am using Silicone hose since the old rubber ones also got brittle.

I performed the ECU reprogramming as IPD recommends for the HDTVC and went out for a spin.

WOW.. new found power on the low end and also on the top end... My 855 sleeper woke up on I95, now it is costing me a lot more to sell it. Runs great but not as great as my v70R Manual 6 speed.

since I purchased 2 sets of connectors I will purchase another GM ACDelco solenoid and test it on the v70R.

I have a AC Delco Tcv... whats this reprogramming?

From IPD website:

"Volvo engine control units feature ‘learning’ software, this means the on board programmed logic in

the ECU can adapt to changing conditions in certain engine parameters."

Perform the procedure on the instruction sheet so the ECU adapts to the changes.

I liked the mod boost comes much smoother and earlier.

Thanks for the links. Here's a cheap way to get those costly connectors folks. anyone find any cheaper, please post.

I got round to fitting my IPD HD TCV today and can only echo some of the comments already said in this thread r.e. it seems a lot smoother and more stable than before.. overall pretty impressed with it (although to be fair - I would say that my stock BCS had seen better days so not sure what difference you would notice against a stock BCS in good condition) - either way I know I shouldn't need to replace it any time soon! :)
