Obama Nation

It was a landslide because of how the electoral college is setup. Like was said before the Popular vote was NOT a landslide.

that is true but I didn't say the popular vote was a landslide. but Barack Obama did get more than 50% of the popular vote which hasn't been done in a while by a Democrat. the electoral college is outdated and a stupid way to decide things. ask anyone who voted for Gore what they think about it. I remember when I was watching the 1992 election with my dad and was wondering why Bush was going to be President in some states and Clinton in others

Ahh...Bill Ayers .. Well this being said "One mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter". Not to promote Ayers, but Ayers was an anti-war activist. He stood for anti-corruption and democracy in its purest form. Sure he was involved in bomb-plots but in other nations, that is considered nothing short of a hero..Fidel Castro was a hero to those who wanted change in Cuba to end corruption in the late 1950's..unfortunatley he FAILED. Look at Obama's mentors..MLK, Malcolm X, Mohandas Ghandi, etc..these are all extremists to some ponit, but men who died for a cause and men who werent affraid to initiate action. Its understandable that Obama admires this quality, as he is one to initiate action himself. I give the man credit for sticking to his guns, I just do not agree with his followers.

Ahhh, I thought this thread was dead!

If I think about it enough, it seems the electoral college is the hedge against an uniformed or "fucking moron" vote. However, NY and Cali have so many electoral votes that the middle of the country can go unrepresented very easily.

Now, lets consider a man that has spent less than 160 days on the job, yet became Prez of the most powerful, wealthy, and influential country in the history of the world. That could scare some folks, me a little. He's smart. But he's gotta be a dumb ass taking this job in this time in history, with the country a mess. His big plans will take a back seat until were straight again. $450 billion for health care? Wheres it coming from? Nothing is free. 2010 will tell you how he's doing, mid-term elections always do. I'm watching these guys, we all should. The Dems have the reins, now lets see what they can do.

Its interesting thing. Because we are the largest consumer nation in the world, producer country's take it in the mush when we have no money to buy. Iran is a mess because they over produced oil when it was outta control and didnt hedge for low price times. Same with Venezuela and Russia. Thats good. It keeps them in their place a little bit. We didnt have to fire a shot in Georgia, we just pulled business and cash out of the Russian stock market. , and they folded. Thats our biggest weapon, not nukes. Money and investment, and no one does or has more of it than us.

Chalk one up for the free market and capitalism. I love them both! But I love Mike more.LOL

the electoral college was a landslide, not nearly Reagan vs Carter but Obama won by 200 votes, not the 25 or so that bush won by both times. (edit: 5 in 2000 and 35 in 2004)

Because we ALL know the electoral college is not BS right? ...

Look I voted for McCain. I watched Obama. I researched Obama and I did not like his left wing ideas. I like to consider myself a moderate, but I have to take issue with this sticking to his guns. I saw him flip flop on so many issues it wasn't even funny. What is more odd, is that the media NEVER called him on it. Hmmmm.

Wait, your not an American citizen? If not I respectfully say STFU! I don't see any whining here, just what-ifs and what-nows. And most of us on "the other side" have wished the new Prez well, and true to form for true Americans we'll be behind the guy because he's ours. Now go tend to the Hindu Vs Muslim issues over there, Poverty and the growing Aids crisis and sex slave problems. Noticed a lot of misaligned teeth over there also. The rant on the Ivy League suggests you couldnt get into a school of that caliber, or am I wrong? Listen to me, I went to a community college   . Yup, I'm a tool, but youre way off base.

And check the popular vote, not the landslide you may think.

" You'll never fit in! Now you come to elf practice, learn how to wiggle your ears, chuckle warmly, go hee-hee and ho-ho, and important stuff like that. A dentist! Good grief!"

Am I being too mean? :P

And anyone who would vote for Al Franken is an idiot.

And I was just going to remark on how us VSers are more tolerant of differing opinions than TBrickers. 86 that!

Yes, I'm an American citizen. I got accepted to 4 out of 6 schools I applied to......USC, George Washington, Texas, SMU. I didn't get accepted to Georgetown and UCLA......no regrets though, I wouldn't have gone to Gtown anyway because they closed their dental school in 1998 while I was applying. I chose USC because I have a family member who is a dentist in Los Angeles, and because their dental school is VERY good.

Either way, my point was that no matter how you argue it, there was a winner, a clear winner. So, instead of this thread being about how your life is going to suck (which, lets be honest, it wont) with a leader that is on the opposite side of the political spectrum, make it about how this leader can bring the US out of it's drunken stupor.

You're not being too mean....it's a debate. If you were JOE, I would say you're being mean, though. He's an ass.

Oh, and remember that India is 60 years old, and was British ruled for hundreds of years.....they left this place as it is, and from the room I'm sitting in, I can tell you that it's getting alot better. While the US citizens (myself included when I'm there) are tending to drive-by shootings, rapes, incest laden cults, economic crisis, a losing war effort, gay people running around in protests, and a school (not college/uni) education system that sees most of it's students fail at higher levels, let me remind you that India's economy is booming, they are fighting against AIDs, and they are taking American jobs abroad, and in America, and not just cleaning toilets and working at McDonald's.....they are taking tech jobs, medical jobs, engineering jobs, along with just about any other high paying, respectable position you can imagine.

Don't be blinded by pride, and realize what is really happening over there. I'm not saying India is better than America, but no one can argue the fact that as of now, India is one of few places on earth producing positive images. India has been dealing with terrorist bombings on a daily basis for YEARS....and yet, no economic crisis, no people crying foul about what the government has been doing about it.....

I do not believe in gays adopting

I believe marriage should be between a man and woman and a family should be with a mom and a dad.

I am old fashion when I believe that the point of being on this earth is to praise God and raise a family

Am I old fashioned to believe that this country was founded on separation of church and state. You cannot bring religion into a political battle. I was born and raised a Roman Catholic and I dont think that deserves to be brought up in any political discussion. We as a country cannot force a single religion or lifestyle due to a religion on the rest of the country, even if that one religion is made up of the majority of the people.
