Volverine
As we all know Volvo Car Corporation was sold to the Ford Motor Company on January 28, 1999. If this purchase never occured where would you see volvo in the year 2008? Would they have closed their doors? Would they have built cars more up to par with BMW and Mercedes-Benz? Has Ford been a positive influence or not, overall? Would it have been better if GM purchased Volvo? What if another car company purchased Volvo who would have been a better choice, if any? Now that Ford has all of Volvo's cars on common platforms, I think it is highly unlikely that Volvo would ever be puchased from Ford in the future. Anybody disagree? Has Ford been just as good or better or worse owner than GM has been to Saab? Also do the Swedes have any plans at getting their car's back? Does anybody think that Volvo is or was capable of builting a sports car or roadster like the Nissan 350z, Audi TT, Cadillac XLR, Saturn Sky?As much as I love Volvo I feel that they are slipping when it comes to keeping up with the other Europeans next door. HtownTurboBrick
why is this NWS? and i think volvo could pull off a spectacular performance car if they really really tried, problem is, who would buy them? and they can't price stuff right to save their lives. Volverine
why is this NWS? I just wanted to get ppl's attn and I guess my first sentence is news, just old news.its hard to play the "should of, could of, would of, what if?" gameTrue, thats why I asked b/c i couldnt predict it myself.I wasnt too interested in Volvo at the time of the purchase ('99) so I was hopeing somebody who knew the companies standing at the time could predict. Thanks for your input so far! I really expected only one person to respond and to tell me to search the forums until i die.

Leo850T5
in a perfect world, Volvo would have made a better S60 and V70R with 400+hp and AWD, a true M3 killerbut in this world, they would probably be bankrupt without ford

thewhiteguy1
Now that Ford has all of Volvo's cars on common platforms, I think it is highly unlikely that Volvo would ever be puchased from Ford in the future. Anybody disagree?i do. very much so. if it is in the next little while. see below as welll.Has Ford been just as good or better or worse owner than GM has been to Saab? Also do the Swedes have any plans at getting their car's back?hell yes. half of ford's tech is actually volvo tech. the new focus rs in europe has a volvo turbo 5 cyl engine in it. ford has said they might sell the company for $6 bil.Possible bidders for Volvo include: * SAIC Motor Corp the largest automaker in China , They have the funds but lack the capacity and sophistication to handle a acquisition of such magnitude. * Hyundai Motor Co. South Korea’s largest automaker can not be ruled out but its unlikely and not normal practice for Hyundai Motor to expand through accusations * The Swedish government is also a possible choice, they will attempt to assemble a grope local investors to secure their position and hopefully with the help of the Wallenberg family whose investor AB and Family foundations hold board seats on about 2/3 of the counties largest listed companies.Does anybody think that Volvo is or was capable of builting a sports car or roadster like the Nissan 350z, Audi TT, Cadillac XLR, Saturn Sky?i do. i think they could pull it off. like a C70 R or something. AWD + R Engine.

FistFull
I feel as ford owned or not its time for Volvo to built a 350-375hp car. And built in a way that it is untuned. Like the Evos etc...now adays every car makers seems to be coming out with a strong 300+hp car while Volvo just took theirs off the production line. The world never stops rolling why should Volvo. And I feel as if its not just us the Volvo tuners but I feel that the mainstream buyers are looking into other cars that will keep them safe...but still beable to get them from point A to B quickly...a 300hp car now of days is whatever...you need 400+hp to make people go..hmm I wonder what that feels like..Volvos already did the hard part...making a car safe..they've mastered that. Now its time to get their hp game up...or at least a 350hp car and let us do the rest
johnloves850's
+1 on creating a car around 400hpi showed my friend a video on youtube of an 850r beating an evo 8and he goes:yea but you never see a volvo beating a tuned evoand that's kinda depressing, and volvo obviously isn't lacking in the technology departmentso what's the deal?and i think it would've been bad for both ford and volvo if volvo wasn't purchased by fordfigure the euro focus is pretty much a c30and from what i've read the new taurus is a volvo chassis? i could be wrong about that
Young Burnsy
Practically everything Ford makes has Volvo tech in it. The fivehundred was on the S80 chassis. I assume the new Taurus will be on the same chassis.
