NoodleKnight
So, I've had a few people tell me this now... (Maybe it was just Chuck multiple times...) Regretfully (or possibly not? ) I wasn't around to experience this Arob guy. But, apparently being in the pursuit of knowledge (and not taking Chuck's opinion as "the word unto the lord" [and having proved him wrong on multiple occasions...]) makes me the "new Arob." Honestly Chuck, you don't seem like the religious type of person, so what's with the "almighty" attitude? Being wrong on occasion is how you learn! So, please do let me know if you all would like me gone. I'm sure I can find a better way to spend my time. (Even if you people don't hate me as much as Chuck would like to lead me to believe, I probably won't frequent this place as much anymore... Just doesn't feel very inviting... )Yes you are the new Arob. No I didn't vote because I didn't want to vote for the 2nd stupid poll. You have yet to prove Chuck wrong on any occasion, all you achieved was to make yourself look stupid by doing a search on google.com and wikipedia then copy-pasting the results. You say you always challenge your own knowledge yet you take whatever the first page of search results tells you and you accept it as the final answer. Sounds hypocritical to me. As for the two subjects that you've brought up, saying that you've proved Chuck wrong, all I can say is that you need to stop with your selective reading. "With an attitude like that, you're certainly not going to get very far in life... "+1 to S70turbo1998's post.I see your posts pop up everywhere and I bite my tongue, but I guess I don't have to anymore. I hope you do leave, I hope you read this, and I'll reassure you that not a lot of people here like you and your attitude.
khax
i've found asking questions to not really be worth it either. a lot of people here don't remember that they had to do everything the first time once too. i'm not exactly sure what all went down that caused all this but hopefully you'll stick around. a lot of people take it for granted that their parents or friends know a lot about cars and showed them the way to do basic things. if you know what you're doing, the person asking how to do it seems like an idiot ;)
Pops Racer
Who is this guy?1600+ posts and I never heard of him. Oh wait. "Wheres the oil drain plug?" Right? See, I know whats up. khax
suppose you're in a room with a car and a computer. you need to change the oil but don't know how as you have never done it before. i'm guessing you'd ask how to do it too. you can't know something that was never taught or shown to you. Suppose they invented a search engine called "google"... And in the scenario you just provided, you would not be able to change the oil. What the hell is a computer going to do? Certainly cannot grasp the oil filter, and I doubt you'd want to use it to hold old oil...Khax you're still missing the point. "How do I change the oil" has been answered multiple times, and a simple search will do. If people actually registered and read Bay 13/pinned threads, they would know how to do at least 50 percent of what is usually asked about on this board. khax
most people would rather ask a community full of volvo enthusiasts a volvo related question to get a specific answer. and obviously saying you couldn't change the oil with what i said is just splitting hairs. the reason people ask questions isn't cause they don't read about how to do it first it's because there's an infinite amount of problems and solutions to whatever you're doing and it's easier to ask someone who has done it before than to read something that was already written. just like you said a car's technology will never be updated a writeup will never be updated which is why asking a question to a person is easier than looking through a hardcopy of general guidelines relating to whatever you're doing that sometimes do not cover your exact problem. (n)A-GAME
Kellen, you're absolutely right. That's why we usually give n00bs the "search" answer, but someone will always go ahead and post up the link anyways. Even putting aside the question of how much time they should have to spend to find Bay13 etc., it's common practice on VS for people to be helpful to the best of their abilities, even when you start threads about basic repair that can be found in google or a Haynes manual. THAT SAID, the reason this guy has earned the enmity of a lot of people is because he will start a thread, someone will answer the question in a genuine attempt to help him, then he will argue that they are wrong. It's happened countless times. What incentive do we have to keep helping someone who will turn everything into an argument? It's one thing to ask a follow up question to someone's post, it's another to say "Well google says this, so you must be wrong!"And to the OP: Don't take the internet so personally. That's because it was his only thread in OT. You make a good point, I was responding to you taking into account this guy in particular and his inability to actively listen to others' comments, when they provided more then enough help. Black Betty
Kellen some people also dont have parents or friends that know alot about cars. Me included but this site really does have alot of useful info. In the beginning i would just set aside a lot of time if i was unsure about anything i was doing, and attempt it first before i asked any questions. I see what you mean about clarrifying things thats not bad. What is bad is when you ask a question and then tell the person who answered that they are wrong. Its one thing to play devils advocate but taking it to far pisses me and i know other people off. Its like this if you know the answer dont ask the question! if you want opinions respect other people opinionsI think noobs should all go out and buy a haynes or chiltons manual first lol
