Young Burnsy
So the bailout failed. What do you guys think will happen next. Good, bad, ugly?I realize that some of you may work in the industry or have family members in the industry in that case I wish you well and I sure hope you don't work for Chrysler. Why'd you vote the way you did?I'm curious.I personally didn't want the bailout to pass because I think it's the only way the American auto makers will reshape themselves. Not because I don't want your family to not be able to eat. Let's just get that straight before a flame fest erupts.
flyfishing3
i'm against the bail out but i belive the govt needs to have the money ready to go.the UAW will make any deal fail.they need to break the current deal, get it in line with other manu. and then if the bail out is needed lets talk.Bob lutz voluntered to be the CAR CZAR. can you imagine the carnage if he was involved. we'd all be driving GTOs. Smithwicks
im rather torn on the subject...on the one hand i believe that the government shouldnt be involved in the economy...and on the other hand i think that like Fly said, not having the money ready would be a bad thing...because hell...can this country afford to lose roughly ~3million jobs?no surprise that the market is already down 2.2% and oil is down 3.33 bucks. Boost_Junky
I think it’s ridiculous when the misinformation of doom reports that all will end if a bailout isn’t executed. The American auto executives use the same fear tactics that neo-cons use to motivate people into giving up money. The fact is that these industries will see a hit, but not every last job will be lost. Not every last factory will close. Every American car will not disappear. The factories, the system and its employees have a value. This value will not disappear. Rather it will be reevaluated and restructured to accurately represent the strong and everlasting characteristics of the American auto industry. Whether other companies or a restructured version of the current organization owns these assets, they will continue to exist. Only their form will become more about survival and continuation of proven profit sources. This is only a good thing. As a friend, son, brother, and person, I hate to see someone lose their job. It’s horrible to see. As a consumer and a business person, I want quality product, properly directed innovation and proven and stable profits. In short, US Auto manufactures, if what you’re reporting to us is true, then you’re doing it wrong.

s70turbo1998
I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some ... people out there in our nation don't have maps and uh, I believe that our, ah, education like such as in South Africa, and, uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and I believe that they should, uh, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., or should help South Africa, it should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future, for. EdubT5m
im sry but every company that is going bankrupt cant be bailed out. companies go out of business, that is part of life. take british leland for instance. that is part of a world economy, some businesses survive, some dont. im not for people losing their jobs, but i think the UAW isn't doing much to help te situation. the economy will go through rocky times, thats life. Its up to the companies to figure out what THEY need to do to fix the problem. its possible that a bailout will only prolong the inevitable. dont think im unpatriotic, because im not, but its up to the companies to make the changes necessary to survive these rocky times
steve s
i voted against. i would've also voted against the TARP bailout too. fuld from lehman brothers fought so bitterly against the traders, and then went in himself decades later.. anyway..American cars have a lot of parts or even are assembled in foreign countries.., more so than say a toyota camry... wonder what the ripple effect will be on the world economy. something needs to change in detroit to help bring perception of American cars back up, and maybe a bankruptcy may be just a stepping stone for it.. who knows. they need to get rid of that bureaucracy/layers of management... i'm sure somebody in florida can vouch this, didn't one of the big three advertise their suv's with images of snow and etc? really.. com'n, snow in florida? took detroit months to hear the complaints from dealerships. it was an interesting business school case study.oh, even with premium gas under $2 even here in pricey northern cal, ain't going to help detroit win back the suv/truck cash...
