I am learning. Although I feel I am pretty good with a wrench and know a little about what goes on "under the covers" with my car. I have found that there are a few folks here whose knowledge seems nearly "encyclopedic". I come here most frequently when I am in the middle of something with one of my cars, be it performance or maintenance or much to my wife's dismay, shopping. I know I hold my ground a bit too firmly occasionally but try not to resort to name calling (mostly).

I just bought another car, a 99 S70 for $600 because it has tranny trouble. I wouldn't feel comfortable doing so without the resources available on VS. Thanks to everyone who makes it the resource that it is.

As far as the aftermarket goes. I am thrilled. When I bought my R in 01, there wasn't much available. I'm guessing that this site and perhaps other like it, are, in the main, responsible for the surge over the past few years in the wide variety of bits and pieces that have become available. Frequently, you actually have a choice of competing products.

Props to Chuck for keeping it going. Props to the rest of you for keeping it alive.

My biggest gripe is people who post in the thread title

I HAVE A CAR PROBLEM

VS is my primary form of entertainment, and the source from which i aquired 50% of my volvo/general automotive knowledge (the rest comes mostly from my mechanic and i've picked up bits and pieces from other sites on the web) so i care about this site (probably more than i should) and believe there are some things that need to be fixed

first one has already been stated:

I tend to agree with the general decline of respect, courtesy, and civility on the internet, but it's not restricted to VS. It's all over the internet, as people don't have to be held responsible for their attitudes or obnoxious comments. Many of these people would not have the gall to say these things to people face to face, but the "keyboard commando" surfaces all too often in this medium.

Select members on here are just plain rude and mean. IMO there is no excuse for being rude or mean to someone unless they treated you that way first. Asking noob questions or even being dumb is not a reason to be mean to someone. I find it funny that some members dont have the time to provide a link to previous threads or provide a topic title to make searching easier, but have plenty of time to cut someone down for their "dumb" or already talked about question. "its just the internet" is no excuse either, all the posts on here are written and read by real people.

second issue has also already been stated:

we really need to adopt a more "your car, your mods" kind of attitude.

nuff said

and the last issue is that some members of VS seem to think that if you dont have the money to do a mod you shouldnt even be allowed to discuss it. Whats wrong with wanting to discuss the logistics of implementing an expensive idea? for example, just because most of us dont have the money to do a RWD conversion on an 850 doesnt mean we cant discuss how exactly we would go about doing it if we did. It would make for a fun and educational discussion.

Newbie here,

Although we have only been a supporting vendor for 2 days now, collectively over the years FCP has read through the majority of threads and posts on this board. To many, VS is the primary source of car knowledge, entertainment, and general well being. Can someone explain to us why one of the most important threads has only received 32 replies? Maybe we are missing something here.

Debating BOV's and cutting holes in hoods seems to cause more of a stir

Oh and weed. The monkeys love to talk about weed.

who is doing the posting for FCP groton? Nick?

Its actually Scott posting here-

If Nick had the time to post of VS, I would be out of a job. It's my job to make sure that doesn't happen. B)

I work alongside of Nick. I am sure all of you have spoken to me on several occasions. I sometimes insert foot in mouth so everyone thought I would fit well here.

I like monkeys too.

I tend to agree with the general decline of respect, courtesy, and civility on the internet, but it's not restricted to VS. Many of these people would not have the gall to say these things to people face to face, but the "keyboard commando" surfaces all too often in this medium.

I'm on many other forums for gaming, volvos, cars in general, and some political stuff, and it's prevalent everywhere. I applaud you for mentioning here, because it can poison the well from which we all draw our common interest, in this case our bricks. I'm a newly registered member, but I've been on VS in the past and as a guest more recently (I went over to the Ford side for a few years), and I think it's a fantastic resource and source of entertainment. But if people are afraid to ask questions or make new posts for fear of getting slammed by a particular group (and yes, they exist everywhere), then they simply won't post. Thus new topics and ideas cease to pop up, and we're left to rehash the same old stuff. Sometimes bringing up a new spin on an old topic is welcome, and shouldn't be met with the "did you use search yet?" response.

All in all, I enjoy it here, as many other members do. And the issues noted aren't immune to VS, but we can at least nip them in the a$$ here if we try to keep this a fun place for ALL.

I think I'm done.

I have to agree that it is prevalent thoughout the internet. The certain level of anonymity of the internets leads to e-badasses and such, not only here. Actually, a bit less here than most places. That, I will applaud.

I definitely agree with the fear that some new folks might have when entering The VS realm. I think EVERYONE needs to remember that we are all people. I see short and often misunderstood replies to honest questions. People typing "search button, you can haz it... nooob!" or "try again" or "facepalm" a bit too freely. I understand if it is in jest and all parties understand, then cool. But if someone has a serious question, especially a person that is not a VS Regular, answering like a jerk to prove to others that you have been around so long that you've seen a thread on it before and that YOU know how to search.…. aint cool. (don’t get me wrong, some people need to be told/informed about search and its wonderful benefits, but TACT goes a long way) Remember, what you say now will be searched later! I HATE searching and clicking a thread that I think has my answer only to have it be a dead-end thread because it ended in: "search...noob". That being said, I think we should make a conscious effort to make sure that our posts are searchable (keywording, avoiding post and bail, deleting dead-end threads, etc). We should also make an effort to make sure that good threads don't get muddled up with crap and that when they eventually close, a person who DOES use search will find the info they need without having to start another thread.

I'm glad I found this thread, as it reminds me of some things that I personally need to work on as well. I have a couple write-ups that definitely need to be finished. And I'm sure I could be a little more thoughtful before I post.

I love the community here and I want to give back for all that I have received. I like this part of the Interwebs (VS) and I promise to help keep it cool. You'll see me try harder to make this a better place in 2009. And with that, I leave you with a quote from Mahatma Ghandi:

"We must become the change that we wish to see in others"

Somewhat n00b here, 5 months. Every question I've ever asked on this forum has always been answered by more than one member and they didn't just throw in their 2 cents and take off, they replied to almost everything I had to say. While on here I've learned more about my car than I probably could by asking the Volvo tech who sold it to me. Almost every member I've talked(for help with stuffs) to is actually sincere and did their best to resolve the issue. Unlike the idiots who run the Sacwater car club forum I used to be on when I drove my dads Jetta.

And VS also has the most entertaining off topic section area ever. Even when I'm as bored as can be, I can usually find something to amuse myself.

Enjoy :lol:atspeed_front.jpg

There's not too many forums who have such global attendance. I particularly enjoy seeing what the Euro Guys are up to.

VS continues to make up a large percentage of my internet usage, has provided much entertainment, and saved me heaps of cash in easy repairs and mods.

The Internet duschbaggery is unfortunate, but I can happily say it's far less prevalent here, than on most other forums. Props to the mods for that. I've been a VS member for 4+ years, and in that time made some friends, built a strong car, spent a fortune, and lost countless hours being entertained by the good peeps of this forum.

I only wish the chat-room was a little more active.
