matt1122
Well forget an archive, each of those threads can be linked to in a FAQ pinned in the appropriate forum, unfortunately people don't usually bother with FAQs. Why read a bunch of stuff when you can ask your question and be handed 50 different opinions that will usually help more than a FAQ.
PyROTech
Lazy? Actually, I've offered to run the Archives section and be the one who delves into the lost threads on this board and moves helpful topics into the Archives section based on content and recommendations from others. Just an example.. Since I had to search for just "exhaust," I finally found the "3" Exhaust" thread.. FIFTY pages back..It is not a matter of laziness or lack of effort. It's just a better way to manage technical threads and keep all the good information and discussions in one place. "Lazy" would be telling every newbie with a simple question to "Search." But what good is searching if they can't find what they're looking for? I know as a newbie I would much rather spend a few hours reading FAQ's and archived tech discussions rather than waste my time posting up my questions only to have someone tell me to "Search!" If you want to see an example of what I'm talking about, go here..←so basically yer saying i am parnoid, it was a joke => my comment, yet had some truth b/c some people do like to say do a search. Turbo Brick
Well forget an archive←I guess it's decided then. unfortunately people don't usually bother with FAQs...Which is partially my point. Instead of having stickies that take up 1/3 of the Performance section, some of those threads can be moved into an archives forum and edited as/if needed. Keep in mind that not everyone wants to follow a bunch of links to learn about their cars or find what they need. Centralizing this information would be the best choice here. Also, you must realize that the reason it seems like no one chooses to search and instead just posts their questions is that you never hear about those who simply read a FAQ or search for an old thread and find the answer to their question(s). When was the last time you saw someone post just to thank the creator of the FAQ or to let us know that the information they found on our board told them what they needed to know? You don't hear about these people because they have no need to post anything. They visit our board, find the info they need, and get on with their lives. Understand that if you centralize the most commonly asked questions and the most often sought after information into one forum (particularly one that can be specifically searched), you would eliminate a lot of the commonly-answered "DO A SEARCH!" threads. Why read a bunch of stuff when you can ask your question and be handed 50 different opinions that will usually help more than a FAQ.←Because not everyone wants to post and wait for someone to answer their question. Some would rather read FAQ's and writeups and then ask about things they don't understand. Of course there are still those who simply want to post and get the same old information thrown at them. There will always be some. Also keep in mind that we are talking about facts here, not opinion. If you want opinion, simply enter the Performance section and read a few threads. If you want facts, that's when you turn to Archived information..
matt1122
I guess it's decided then. I was merely suggesting a simple alternative. And there is a FAQ in performance already, isn't there, (if not where did it go?) why don't you add those threads to it. Turbo Brick
I was merely suggesting a simple alternative.←And I was simply poking fun at the wording of it. And there is a FAQ in performance already, isn't there, (if not where did it go?) why don't you add those threads to it.←Yes, there is an FAQ in the Performance/Modifications forum. We could just add those threads to it but then you just have a longer, more cluttered FAQ thread. Also the FAQ's in each forum could be centralized into the Archives forum so that all the information is there in one place. Things like stock specifications, that great list of aftermarket companies for our cars, Jesse's FAQ in the Performance section, that FAQ in the FWD section, and even some of the Cosmetic section's writeups. This would eliminate most of the stickies in the forums and replace them with links to complete writeups. For example, I would finish (someday ) the writeup for the turbo timer installation, clean up the post, then take all the good/needed info from the discussion we had there and combine it into the writeup. From there I would delete the rest of the posts from the thread and move the writeup into the Archives section with a good title that can be searched later on. Then in 6 months, if someone comes into the Performance section asking about which wires to splice, we can simply direct them to the Archives section or even give them a link. No need to search for anything and try to decipher the correct way to do something from 2 or 3 different threads about it. I don't see how this couldn't help the board. Where's the downfall?

theunderlord
It would be a PITA for someone I think.←how about a whole new forum topic for FAQ's? Under "Other" .. make all the threads locked so they always are in the same spot, until new ones get added of course...
