Well, I can finally add the custom intake to the list of installed mods. Had some teething issues after the initial install this weekend laugh.gif

here's a shot of my breather setup as it relates to the stock box

IMG_8670.jpg

had to transition from ME7 manifold ports (since this is intended for my new head) to the old ME4.x style head port, so I dremel an IPD phenolic spacer

IMG_8671.jpg

reworked the coldside IC, TB, EVAP & IAC routing, and the breather box inlets to clear the shifted inlet hose positioning.

IMG_8677.jpg

designed to reuse as many stock parts as possible - makes servicing DTR much easier

Installed the 99- PS pump, hard lines to rack (real PITA), PS & Coolant reserviors & all lines/hoses (thanks, Jeff!) Also installed the modified T/stat housing cover & lower temp (82ºc) T/stat. reworked the hotside IC plumbing to fully clear the new manifold & injector cover

Revised IC plumbing

I'll replace the above pics with daytime shots when it stops raining - I finished this up last night @ 9pm. Did a quick highway run, and was so excited I just had to call BMac biggrin.gif

Wow! I just logged into VS for the first time and registered. I looked you up from one of your videos on YouTube. Awesome job on the car and the build! I wonder how much time and cash it has taken to get it this far ;-). I just got a '98 V70XCAWD just like yours (same color and everything) and am very inspired to see what can be done with it. I just had one question: Since it seems you changed engines was it to another 2.4L LPT block or did you swap to a T5/R 2.3L HPT engine? Thanks, and one more thing, would it be alright if I also "borrowed" some of your ideas? Later...

Hi, and welcome!

As Kristian said, everything is pretty much covered in this thread - the engine was swapped for a T5M motor that I built with H-Beam rods.

Borrow whatever ideas you wish - that's why they are posted! :D

Installed the '03 head and Enem Cams over the past week.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c190/huseinholland/CarMods/B5254T2 Head/IMG_8707.jpg

Had some issues with the cams & hubs resulting in 10 bent intake valves.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c190/huseinholland/CarMods/B5254T2 Head/IMG_8742.jpg

Had to pull the head again. Additional $500 in parts & machine shop labor later, that is all resolved laugh.gif

As it now sits , with modified '00 NA intake manifold (ETM flange cut off & '98 3" ID end section welded in place):

This fitment requires a number of modifications, some you can work around, I preferred to update as much as possible.

Modified the '98 fuel & FPR hard lines over the cam cover to fit under the '99- timing covers.

Modified the ancillary brackets to accept the '99- serpentine belt (dual ribbed) and tensioner design - the earlier tensioner would have required cutting the timing cover to fit, and the '99- style eliminates the extra idler pulley, simpler more streamlined design. I'm still running the '98 Alternator & AC compressor, to use the '99- ancillary bracket would have required replacing both of the above. With this setup, the alternator is actually spinning backwards, but since it has plenty of air circulation in our side mount-forward facing application, I'm not anticipating much of an issue. I modified the upper steel ancillary plate to accept the '99- PS pump (which also meant using the '99- coolant reservoir & PS reservoir) - mainly because a custom intake won't clear the -'98 setup without curving the intake runner for #1 (custom intake is being redeveloped with the assistance of Nathaninwa on TB)

Ancillary brackets:

Using Aaron's VVT Delete Hubs (added fixed nuts to the back to increase thread area)

Ported ME7 head installed

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c190/huseinholland/CarMods/B5254T2 Head/XRB5254T2cams0005.jpg

Intake gasket matched also

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c190/huseinholland/CarMods/headersmanifolds/XRB5254Manifold0028.jpg

Added second oil filler neck so that valve lift can be checked on #3 cyl, added two welded bungs for cam cover venting, using just the forward one for now.

V70-XR-0390.jpg

Used Boroscope to check valve/piston clearance; #1 cyl @TDC, 1.5mm INT lift

V70XR_0546.jpg

Modified '03- breather box to fit under -'98 (and '99- ME7 NA) intake manifold NOTE that cam vent position is NOT the same as -'02 box design!!!

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c190/huseinholland/CarMods/Breather Modifications/XRnewBreather0004.jpg

Modified early style t/stat housing to include bleed/vent line to back of head

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c190/huseinholland/CarMods/B5254T2 Head/IMG_8182.jpg

made the coolant pipe from a turbo oil feed line

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c190/huseinholland/CarMods/B5254T2 Head/XRB5254CoolantPipe0001.jpg

Cam hubs installed, using new hub & cam gear bolts, timing set @ true TDC (not Volvo reference markers, which are approx 20º BTDC)

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c190/huseinholland/CarMods/B5254T2 Head/IMG_8747.jpg

Hubs have to be counterheld to torque to the spec of 120Nm, as rear slots of Enem Cams CANNOT be used to lock cams!!!!

Now in basic tune adjustment mode, so only running 15psi while adjustments are made to the fuel & WOT maps to compensate for the vastly improved breathing.

Data log from yesterday afternoon. I didn't go WOT before then, my sphincter was still too tight after the valve bending experience laugh.gif )

Now that the AFR's are in the ballpark, I can start raising the boost biggrin.gif

Next up will be this nice addition:

Loving the mods, the list just keeps going and going, was moving the battery easy to do or did you have to mod it??

Looking forward to the next updates keep up the good work cool.gif

Just cut the stock tray down, extend the positive battery cable.

V70-XR-0759.jpg

EDIT: added side pegs back to locate tray in inner fender for better support (screw ends are cut off afterward)

Ah ha good sir. I was meaning to talk to you about this particular item. Did you tap a second bolt hole (don't say it) or is a bolt hole there? Did you shave the underside of the tray? I made an attempt at this and would like to fix it.

Are you making it to Carlisle this year?

I see this IMG_8707.jpg and wonder how rough the XR is right now? :o
