This is why I ask. I wanna do something like this to my bumper.

Hi

That does look cool.... but, I didn't have to cut the bumper at all. The valance was cut back...

I ran the car with & without the bumper installed, it made no difference to intake temps.

Haha don't act like I have any idea what I am doing performance wise. I assumed that roughly the same amount of air would hit the intercooler. I just think it looks cool. I'm sure it will be a pain in the ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD to do tho. Just like it was to download GIMP and learn how to use it to make that half assed image lol.

And I did see that pic I just wasn't sure how it all came together. I guess we will see when I take the seventy bumper off. That is the only way to learn.

Not too shabby - the problem would be getting a smooth transition in cutting the bumper below the ridge line,

Pulling the bumper is easy - pop the rivets for the liner, unplug the fogs, remove the h/l wipers, and remove the two long bolts (14mm head) that hold the bumper to the tie plates, then just pull it forward.

lol thanks. I've been thinking about this for a long time but now that I have one I am debating on just using the bumper as is for modifiying it would mean destroying it if I messed up. I mean after all it was your car that made me wanna get one and yours just has been painted.(I wont mentioned the little imperfections I have seen lol)

I assume it would involve cutting out the upper 5 centimeters of the mid hole, stretch it out from the vertical and horizontal, and attach it. Fiberglass then bondo, sand then paint.

But I may just not even mess with it.

does enclosing the intake make a difference?

If you're moving, I doubt it. In stopped traffic or idling, yes simply because it's drawing air from outside the engine bay, although in hot weather, behind the bumper may be hotter than the stock draw location also. I'm going to make an alternative that draws from the stock location. I didn't do that first because my WI solenoid is in the way, and it's not a straight path into the can.

Still working on my SAS but up next for fun stuff to do is a CAI. I was gonna "borrow" your old setup but naturally you post this I assume just to screw with my head lol.

First what is the enclosure? I that something you fabricated yourself?

Second I was wondering if this may become more restrictive than having an open element as apparently there is not as much space between the filter and the enclosure especially at the top. Not sure if that matters with a large diameter setup like yours.

Very interesting air intake setup. I really liked the reuse of the factory air tunnel.

We all know what it sounds like with a cone filter... how does the enclosure affect this sound, if at all?

As always, your XC is the tops.

Thanks! No noticeable change in intake sound - still sounds awesome under load!

Enclosure is a 6" ABS catch basin from Home Depot. No restriction that I can discern - runs WOT with no feeling of limitation (as it did when the intake tube sucked inside on my preliminary test version  )

Redid it again today  Bought another basin, so I can switch to the lower funnel if it seems worthwhile.
