I had an interesting bar room discussion today.

The question up for debate was:

"Including the cost of the car and all necessary mods, which P2 is cheaper to get into the 12s?

A -S60R FWD

B -S60R AWD

C -S80T6 "

My position is/was:

A - Arguably, the most expensive car of the three, it has the most mods available for it. However, issues with the #3 cylinder come into play at the power level necessary to get into the 12s? Plus, everybody seems to have trouble launching it

B- Same as A, extra weight and power drainage from the AWD offsets the benefits of any additional traction, plus the collar gear/spline gear can't handle the necessary power

C - cheapest platform to start from, especially if you get one with a bad trans (since your going to spend $$ upgrading the trans anyway), close in weight to B, questionable turbo upgrade and tune availability to generate the necessary power

What's your opinion?

FWD the rest will blow something up before they get anywhere near 12s lol

but the FWD will need LSD and bigstickytires to get there.

R - angler gear and AWD = Explosion

S80 - really lulz

but with the money to get any of those into consitant 12s anything is possilbe :D

True.

So, are you saying FWD is the cheapest, the easiest, or both?

Cuz the debate was about the "cheapest", and wouldn't the cylinders need to be sleeved, along with the cost of a LSD?

yeah but cylinders would have to be sleaved in all the cars so...

And LSD = cheaper then building a AWD system that will make 12 seconds.

you don't think that the extra displacement of the T6 wouldn't help it - assuming bigger turbo(s) and proper tune?

I would guess and totally a guess would need at least 600whp and I would guess that the engine would not hold up to that.

No clue but I wouldnt try it with out sleveing .

Now if it was a 2.3 motor sure its been done throw in some rods head work and amazing tune with huge turbo and LSD and yoru there :D

truthfully I am more intrested in this bar that was taking about volvos and racing ?

sounds like a place I must visit .

Since any bar I have ever gone to no one wants to here about my volvo :(

 No clue either, but I was thinking it was closer to 400 - 450 whp to hit 12's

If you come out to oregon come to the corbett fishouse with me and chuck, we get pints and talk volvos every friday :)

as for getting into the 12s... the T6 or a FWD T5M (2.3) S60. 19T, MBC, drag slicks, open DP no cat, maybe some other supporting mods + lots of tire hop and your there.

but theres a cheaper way with a volvo:

Sorry everyone, but the answer is C.

Now that I think about it your right (I edited my other post ;) )

You would probably be able to do it on stock turbos. Performance rebuild kit for the tranny (something like $400 from summit) a chip, MBC and drag tires should get you into the 12s. just look at the 0-60 times ipd lists for a chipped T6 (5.4) and then consider that its FWD and 0-60 is what it does worst. after it gains traction it will accelerate similar to a RWD car that does 0-60 in well under 5.

IMO the T6 is a very underrated car in the volvo community simply because of its terrible transmission, its a shame really. I would love to see someone solve the transmission issue either with a performance rebuild or a completely different transmission and build a T6 with upgraded turbos. Just dual 15Gs or 16Ts would be amazing. But just imagine what dual 19Ts could do if you use their potential as single units on a T5 as a benchmark.
