Added -4 AN fittings to the main water pipe & to the oil cooler return/block drain line. The PTE is oil cooled only, so no need for the water ports. Enem Cams are here Turbo is here '04 2.3HPT block is here, stripped it yesterday & dropped the block, carrier, pan & hardware off at the machine shop. If he can switch the order with JE - I'll go with longer H-beams from RSI, and short forged pistons. Apparently the rods have a non-standard small end - 22.8mm, so either they have to be re-bushed or different gudgeon pins have to be made. I was thinking of the longer rod/shorter piston skirt combo my self for my 01 block build... anything about the 04 block that makes it special other than the different piston/rod setup in comparison to the 01? I'm not sure if 147mm is the best - R's used 143mm (but larger displacement...), so I don't know what's up with that... '04 has revised oil squirters, revised breather, slightly different mountings & added castings for the later RNC setup T/stat etc.. Not sure that's anything of significance. I just wanted a later 2.3 block, and this is what came up. The stock longer rods are definitely better than the earlier version, but I won't be using them or the crank. A simple calculation. Crank got more stroke. Pistons stayed roughly the same as did the block itself. Gained stroke needs to go somewhere so they shortened the rods. Car was sold last year and slightly detuned, est. 380 crank HP, before it changed owners. New owner apparently with lesser knowledge fiddled the waste gate and went to the track. Results, a broken piston. Engine was taken apart, head overhauled and new pistons installed. Some time later same story, same cylinder broken piston again. Very impressive numbers! I wonder which piston he broke? I'll see if anyone is interested in the later stock rods, I'm still going to put H-beams in for safety measure. lookforjoe Posted February 19, 2012 Author Report Share Posted February 19, 2012 Took more apart today & just tried to figure out how much space I actually have for the Tial This is the space The Tial has to fit in here no space did a couple of sketches to help me figure it out. The documentation suggests that the inlet to the WG has to less than 90º with the flow. Going to be tough to accomplish given the space.
