mdlimy
can we give you a nickname? how about "etcha sketch" =p i love your diagrams, by far my favorite part about this forum. Looks like you need to bring that wastegate out and up a bit. Robbie
Johann
i love your diagrams Plus much. And if you take a better look at them you can see Mr. Holland had everything already figured out in his head. Hardly any corrections to see in those drawings. B Mac
Oh common H put a screamer pipe on there! The exhaust is already too loud, you might as well just crank it to eleven Always impressed with your sketches though man, good stuff. Are you working on it today at all? I've got nothing going on today.

I've got nothing going on today. I have a funeral in Katonah late morning. Not sure if I will get anything done on it today. I'll call you later. lookforjoe
Finally got the motor out today. Had trouble getting both axle nuts off & a host of other small things Much cleanup to do - need to clean up all the wiring I've added over the past few years. Moved the brake line behind the firewall insulation, should give me a touch more clearance for the Tial. old 140 Volvo flywheel tool still works Need to deal with the alternator pivot bolt, I cut the flange off the DP & need to add the V-band & deal with the Tial fitment, Map placement on the intake, & various other odds & ends. Flywheel & clutch still look pretty good for 40K of pretty hard use. :D
B Mac
You move around pretty good for an ol' fart I'm eager to see what lies beneath that cylinder head though. Any progress on the new block as well?
lookforjoe
You move around pretty good for an ol' fart I'm eager to see what lies beneath that cylinder head though. Any progress on the new block as well? lol. Taking advantage of the good weather to do as much of the outside work as possible. Cleaned up the bay some more - the oil got everywhere - it's inside all the wiring looms, firewall, brake booster, etc. Got most of it off & rerouted the WI, Apexi & Innovate wiring into the main left fender harness. Tomorrow I'll work on the rest of the wiring & deal with the alternator mount, the tensioner bracket, finish cleaning all the engine covers & finish the reinforcement of the front panel to compensate for the bottom being cut off. I didn't pull the head yet, 'cos I want to confirm the lift setting of the cams didn't move; I need too borrow a dial indicator for that, and I want to make sure the rear slots are level in the stock Volvo setup location, since I will be offering these for sale. I also need to mess around with the Tial - I figured I would do that while the motor is still together, but I can mock up the header on my old block & head in the basement. I can't put the V-band on the DP until the motor is back in the car anyway, since I can't check the lower junction out of the car. I'll pull the head tomorrow & see what it looks like. The new block is at the machine shop; I ordered the main & rod bearing kits, Toga racing, same as last time - he'll resize them if need be to make sure there is enough clearance to allow for the higher revs/ output. No word on the JE pistons - still don't know if they got the new order, or if they already processed the old style, apparently he hasn't been able to get through to them all week :(
lookforjoe
Busy day today. Modified the M66 shifter fork bracket, added a collar to prevent the cable barrels walking reinforced the backside of the front panel to compensate for the bottom cut off added an extra tab to the aluminum support so I can bolt the fibre panel on either side. New starter arrived to go with my new 180amp reverse-rotation alternator made a boss for the MAP & had it welded in place This arrived today - making an aluminum breather box and..... pulled the head - this is what I found - back of piston is melted bore is all scored up head gasket looks OK (underside showing). combustion chamber is a little pitted, but should clean up fine I'll take some pics of the piston itself tomorrow, got done too late to pull the crank this evening.
lookforjoe
Ordered 147mm H-Beams today from RSI. The machine shop worked out having JE make the shorter skirt piston with 23mm small end to match the RSI rod. The pistons will have the anti-knock grooves, teflon skirts & all that crap.
maciekb2002
Friend of mine did the same damage to his engine. Driving like an idiot on k24. His issue was known couple days before he melted the piston. He was misfiring on cyl #3 . I noticed that his ipd spark plug wires was loosing connection but he ignored it. So please make sure you not loosing spark. You know those volvo coils the love to fail.

Nice, are you gonna pair these with the older style crank?

I didn't check the coil packs before I removed them - I can check them with the spark tester when I put them back. I didn't feel any misfire, but you never know, I have the IPD packs on the car. Nice, are you gonna pair these with the older style crank? Yes, older crank, longer rods, shorter skirt pistons.
lookforjoe
Took care of the alternator pivot - braised a nut to the adjustable collar used to set the spacing depending on application now I can feed the bolt from the outside & not have to deal with the breather box interference. chopped off the whole lower section of the bracket This is what i had to shave off the old alt to clear the new manifold. I filed down the weld seam on the manifold, so I'm hoping I don't have to do this to the new alternator. melted piston, and broken land More
SlapShot
Would the newer style accessory bracket plus the corresponding alternator/ac compressor in addition to the power steering pump you already have give you any more space for the manifold? Just a thought in case you can't get the new alternator to fit. And as usual, great work!
Jardim
Yes, older crank, longer rods, shorter skirt pistons. Any reason why you dont wan't the RN crank? my guess is you want more torque from a heavier crank.
