how much did you save by buying the unassembled vems unit?

I bought the preassembled ms2 and vems, never regreted that, for me its time that is better spent somewhere else and the piece of mind that the guys that build them everyday assembled it.

I assume you just wanted the experience from it?

I must say that assembling MS3 from scratch was not hard at all, but I do have quite a bit of expirence soldering.

The wiring was the thoughest esp with the stupid DB37 connectors that MS uses. I feel that assembling the standalone units gives you that extra knowledge you need to make sure that everything is set correctly when hooking it up to all the various sensors. I mean I had my car up and running in no time.

Knowing H he probably didn't cheap out but rather wants to get his hands "dirty".

^ the pre-assembled VEMS won't fit in a ME4.4 ECU case - and I didn't want an additional set of connectors, as would be the case to bridge a VEMS case to the ME4.4 ECU harness connectors. I'm not a masochist, I'm not doing it cos its more "fun" this way..... Actually, I am. As Justus pointed out, it also gives me a vmore thorough understanding of the VEMS, and we're not even talkin software yet!

It is hundreds less this way, though that does not compensate for all the am - hours it takes to assemble/ fabricate. I will be happier with the end result this way.

Installed the Delrin subframe bushes. I had to unbolt the rack, I couldn't get enough drop on the drivers side to clear the guide peg, otherwise pretty straightforward. Used the subframe to press the new bushings in.

Also worked on the NRG damper - I'll be welding the cut down plate to the OMP brace. Based on previous photos, the engine end will align pretty darn close to the lifting hook, so I'll need to fabricate a bracket once the motor is back in.

have to move the aluminum Koni shock spacer above the upper mount - as it is, the perch adjuster is pretty much bottomed out to get the spring slack out, and the car sits waaay to high

Wrapped the header today - it rained all day, so no work outside

Looks like you're keeping busy with little projects!

What's the status of the motor at this point?

Machine work (vacuum check Cyl. head, boring, filling of upper cylinder slots, decking for MLS gasket, crank fitment, etc...) should be finished today or tomorrow. Still waiting for pistons, however. Hopefully they shipped last Friday as intended, but I haven't had a tracking confirmation on that.

Hmm, could you please explain this a little bit more?

Take a read over and background info. Don't want to get into another discussion of it here. Suffice it to say Ford Focus (RS?)version has much shallower slots than come in all the Volvo versions.

Shim in place - has to be cut down & ends bent to minimize coolant flow disruption resulting from it's placement

set the shocks 1/4 turn off softest setting

raised the perch seats to lower the back to 13.5" hub center to fender arch lip. Problem is when car is raised with both wheels off the ground, the springs are loose. I'll have to think about adding limiter straps.

Pistons are enroute, should be delivered Friday, according to tracking info!

Worked on the oil pan, carrier & head clean up today. #4 chamber has some minor pitting I need to remove. I noticed a curious thing on the '04 carrier:

an unused drain port. dumps into the oil pan just like the turbo drain - not like the breather box drain that connects to another channel dropping below oil level in the pan.

I'm thinking of drilling & tapping it to -10 or 12 AN, in case I need it for something down the road. I'd like to know what it used for on later applications of the RNC motor, though.
