fischmama
Looks like they used that location for the drain on the focus engines.
854TGA+
Just a question / why don't you get your manifold & DP coated with a heat barrier? Everything is out / now would be the time and you could get rid of that ugly heat wrap. With no wrap or shields on my set up, the OMP strut bar is barely warm after five 1/4 mile runs. Just a tought. lookforjoe
No where to get ceramic coating locally. I'll deal with the wrap. ^Hanks - I have one of those, just didn't add it to the pic 'cos it looks girly with it on Looks like they used that location for the drain on the focus engines. Where'd you find that pic? Johann PM'd me a pic of his modified RN© block with a drain fitting added. I'm having it tapped & plugged, in case I decide I need it. Not sure if our coolant pipes to the oil cooler are in the way though. The ones on the pic are clearly different.
lookforjoe
Really lookin forward to seeing what this beast of a turbo can do. Vems plus this Turbo = Happy days. Infact the Turbo/DP ect is so nice its almost a shame to use lol. I'm looking forward to that, however it will be a while. I still have much work to do on the board itself, then the wiring into the Motronic casing. I don't like the look of the solder joints with the tip I was using, so I have to play around with that. Our house is in upheaval as the kitchen is completely gutted - cabinets came at the end of the week, but not installed yet. I have no work space for the VEMS. Probably going to be a couple more weeks before the kitchen is completely finished & I get my dining room/work area back. Even without that, I have my hands full just getting the car back together this coming week, then run-in period with TT, dyno @ Carlisle (hopefully) as long as everything goes smoothly & I can get some miles on the block beforehand. Hoping to drive it to the Ikea meet next Sat, but that may be a stretch to accomplish at this point. No way I can take any time off work this week to dedicate. Still, I am expecting, or rather hoping, that it all goes smoothly & is running by midweek. The only outstanding fabrication for the setup is the hotside piping over the motor, and the airbox final adjustments, and the torque mount engine -side bracket. The hotside is the only thing that will impede immediate startup after installation, unless I've forgotten something.

lookforjoe
So is it going to ready for Carisle ? Let see first 500hp volvo at ny Hussain !!! Still be running TT for Carlisle, so I reckon about 400 Wheel.... Someone calling in sick or is it a school holiday? Called in the sick day on Tuesday. I prefer to let my students know ahead of time when I'm going to be out, which is rare, so I don't feel bad about it A few niggling problems this evening- the Enem cams were not tapped in the back for the alignment tool, so I have to do that in the AM ; couple of alt mount bolts have be retreaded & then shortened for the modified install. Anyway, head is torqued, following the three stage 20, 60nm & 130 degree angle torque. I had to bolt up the trans for the last stage, I didn't have enough counter hold otherwise. Ancillary bracket for PS pump looks like I welded it a few degrees off - didn't notice it in the mock up. Fitted the alt & ps pump & ran the serp around them & the crank - doesn't t seem to be a problem. I'll add a couple if pics when I get out of the bathtub Volvo rear main cams roughly set Exh one bolt on top Int one bolt on bottom.
lookforjoe
Many small problems today. Didn't get the motor completed at all. Had to get a expensive tap to do the cams, then the locking tool I bought was no use 'cos they didn't weld one of the barrels parallel to the bracket. So, I 'eyeballed' the slots level & setup the timing @ the standard Volvo markings, centering the gears in the slots. Made a mark on the damper & the crank gear for TDC #3 Used dial indicator to set EXH cam @.047" late INT .059" early. Had trouble getting the dial indicator to seat on the valve bucket; I set the lift, then rotated the crank x2 to recheck lift & it was off - this happened a few times, in between which I would have to use another dial indicator to make sure & was really @ TDC, since gear markings are obscured by tensioner & hard to confirm precise alignment. I ended up with both gears pretty much fully advanced in terms of the slots, to get the proper belt alignment with crank gear as you pull it up on the right over int. gear. I still need to notch the gears @ Volvo alignment setting for future belt replacements. Where the slots in rear end up with cams set to specified lift, with belt set to Volvo timing marks Backside of KU SM DM replacement flywheel New bolts with sealer #9454743 stage 2 torquing to 65º - another PITA Spec Stage III full face DM clutch PP installed Sandwich So, no motor installed today. Looks like Saturday is going to be install day, if it's not raining.... Edited July 13, 2015 by lookforjoe
