TDC on #3??? I have always been looking for the little cut out notch at the bottom of the concave in the crank gear. So are we supposed to be setting the timing off #3 cylinder? The last engine I replaced the head on I could not find that notch so I set #1 to TDC and belted it. Runs great but whats the real method? I am seriously thinking of getting that block pin tool.

Used dial indicator to set EXH cam @.047" late INT .059" early. Had trouble getting the dial indicator to seat on the valve bucket; I set the lift, then rotated the crank x2 to recheck lift & it was off - this happened a few times, in between which I would have to use another dial indicator to make sure & was really @ TDC, since gear markings are obscured by tensioner & hard to confirm precise alignment. I ended up with both gears pretty much fully advanced in terms of the slots, to get the proper belt alignment with crank gear as you pull it up on the right over int. gear.

I still need to notch the gears @ Volvo alignment setting for future belt replacements.

Where the slots in rear end up with cams set to specified lift, with belt set to Volvo timing marks

Got the engine/trans in the bay today. Had to pull the trans back off the motor first, 'cos I couldn't be sure I had installed the securing bolt for the slave/T/O brg.

Took a while, I had to finagle the three mounts, the driveshaft - angle gear & DP alignment altogether. Put the under crank mount on the subframe, and added the trans mount after the motor was halfway in. With them on the motor, I couldn't manoeuvre past the frame rails.

Buttoned up the engine mounts, driveshaft, exhaust, EGT probes, EBP port, heater hoses, shifter cables, alternator.

clearance is clearance

can't see how a 4" pipe would fit in here without modifying the heater setup....

Tomorrow I'll put in the 02 sensors, axles, trans fluid, bleed the clutch the easy way with a bottle of fluid on the bleeder port. Then I can get the engine harness, PS pump, reservoirs, hoses, radiator, fluids in. After that, put the nose, FMIC, inlet piping and secondary breather system back together. Then, I just have to mod the hotside IC pipe for the new compressor and the airbox inlet, and the WG vac/pressure lines.

What you didn't know "H" has eight arms?

"H" makes my head hurt with what he accomplishes in a day.

I wonder how much coffee or Redbull he drinks?
