fischmama
Sorry to hear that. SPEC IS JUNK !!! Yes and no. There have been issues with specs but when they work they WORK.
lookforjoe
That is normal though. Exhaust temps after the turbo will be lower than in the manifold. When I had my Stage III setup, I ran my EGT in the manifold and I would see temps at 1400F at part throttle. My probe is now post turbo, and the temps are around 200 lower, so your numbers seem correct. Both probes are in the header! Just one is in the dump tube, one in the collector. Whats happening with the clutch? Right now I can't engage / disengage gears easily. Can't get into reverse at all unless I shut the motor off. As it starts (in reverse) in immediately starts to creep. Spec says that it has to be the master cyl - this is what the rep said: " Your symptom happened on a shift, and unless you have over 600+ ft lbs, you don't have enough power to slip that clutch unseated, even with easy 500 miles of usage. The pedal staying down is a worn or damaged master plunger seal. The fact you cannot get it into gear points to the actuation system. The clutch pressure plate and the flywheel are both billet . One slip will not warp those surfaces so much you could not get it into gear. You would have to burn them continuously til smoke was bellowing out the housing to get them that hot. I would put a master in it, bleed it again and drive it. I would not pull it down at this point. Those pressure plates are stout enough to finish off an old master." Not sure how that explains the slippage under load, but maybe I just hadn't bed it properly. The clutch engages just fine, just the disengage problem. I'm going to try & pick up a master tomorrow before I leave for Carlisle, and change it out Saturday.
lookforjoe
While I was checking things out yesterday (before the clutch slip), looking for possible causes of the stalling on decel, I found I had left a paper towel in the compressor outlet.... pulled all the piping & checked all over, only in the hotside. I blew out from the coldside since I had the piping out, I pulled the fan & shroud & modified the shroud to recess the fan... works better with the custom intake this way didn't make any difference to the stalling, that was fixed this morning with a modiifed TT file raising base in to 950-975, no more stalling in decel. maciekb2002
Hard shifting could be also caused by clutch plate . If rivits are letting go padding is making more contact with the flywheel and pressure plate . You will not know untill you take it apart. I'm gonna do the MC first, just so if it is still bad, I can affirm that there is no hydraulic issues. I did straight 4th gear pull this morning, and it still slipped up top, steady throttle
Jardim
So its slipping at 20 psi? thats still a lot of power on a 6262, think its in the 400whp range?
lookforjoe
Christine broke down on the way to my fkn graduation ceremony in New Paltz. Had to get towed home. Started running rough, heavy vibration, died when I pulled onto the shoulder. Had my wife crank it ovver, and even with the heavy traffic rushing by I could hear a horrible rattle in the motor. Don't know what let loose yet. I am very upset that I didn't make my graduation ceremony. My wife wants me to burn or get rid of the car, just can't do it. I drove to Carlisle in the X1/9, if I had stayed home to investigate the engine/trans failure, I would have felt like breaking something
SKI-R
Condolences (on all fronts), unbelievable amounts of time and energy in both the education and car - hope it's nothing fatal on the XR, truly sorry you missed the grad.
Captain Bondo
Ick. Here's hoping it's something clutch/flywheel related - would explain the clutch issues and also it's better than an engine fatality. Good luck!
Commander Riker
Sorry to hear that. Worried your car is named Christine. No burn, please.
JCviggen
Crap, I'm sorry man. In this game you have to take the (frequent) lows with the (rare) highs I guess. There's not many guarantees when you push things far outside the usual envelope. Edited May 19, 2012 by JCviggen
laird
Mrs. must be pretty cool if she is still hanging in there. What were you doing with 9600 RPM? That may have been a precursor to your problem.

lookforjoe
Started pulling it apart. With the intake off, I can see one bent intake valve #3 cylinder. Some particles in the oil I drained, not sure if it's enough to suggest a bad/ worn thrust bearing ( to explain the clutch engage/ disengage issue). I can feel end float on the damper, jgst don't know if it's enough to indicate a problem there. I guess I'll start with pulling the head - maybe drop the Ian to look at the bottom end. If it all looks OK, that still leaves the clutch issue. I'll do the master while I have it apart.
