Hussein's 1998 V70 Xr : The Force Awakens

I will be happier once I have VEMS installed. Then I can run some real boost :arob: I know you're working on getting me a copy of that VEMS config, Robbie, I appreciate it.

With the current setup, I haven't been really concerned about the AFR's in the lower gears, since 4th is what I'm tuning for. I hadn't considered tuning for under 12.5, that was the range I have been shooting for in 4th. Robbie & JC, what rpm limit did you tune to? What timing did you see up top?

I'm also not used to having so much timing up top, I haven't figured out how to properly adjust the WOT & fuel maps for it. I do know I'm on the edge of what the current injectors will handle - 88% just over 7K rpm in 4th.

I cant remember off the top of my head, its been way to long, ill see if i can find a config somewhere(again), but i think timing was relativly close to what you have, i think i had a bit more on the top but afrs where alot richer than you.

H, just an FYI. I just made 315WHP on the 3rd pull at 16PSI (didn't datalog since my laptop ran out of juice just as it got on the dyno) with MS3.

That was a 10 min tuning session I did with Joe to dial in some of the fuel switching from greens to the 625cc siemens (now 4bar@725cc). Spark blowout as well as AFRs in the 10 above 5500rpm robbed a lot of power. As a comparison I'll post some maps tomorrow if you want.

Sure! Decent numbers for 16psi, sorry to hear about the issues, always something!!

Definitely getting itchy to try the VEMS , if you can locate the files it would appreciated!

I do have to do some hardware swapping in preparation for the VEMs, so unfortunately I can't just swap ECUs back & forth :-(

Yeah, but for me just getting it up and goin yesterday it did very well. The engine I have in right now only has about 6k miles on it and it is built (H-beam rods).

Road tuning in 40 degree weather is tough...no traction even with the gripper.

Absolutely! I wasn't downplaying the fact that you worked it out to the extent you did in such short notice !

You should be tuning in 3rd and 4th, traction would be allright there with decent tires ;)

Sure thing. I don't live in Germany anymore though. ;)

I talked to the dyno guys and they offer dyno time for a fairly good price so I may head back there for a few hours and get some tuning done the safe way.

Hey Hussein, you should have the VEMS stuff in your dropbox. One note, I did have a weird breakup around 6100 RPM that the car would not power through, although it may be something hardware related as Karl (Buchka) never had the issue in his car. I only tweaked the fuel and spark maps, so it makes me think it is something specific to my car with VEMS.

Worth a note though, in case you get my configuration files up and running and experience something similar.

Excited to see what VEMS can do for your setup ;)

Got power back this morning. We were lucky this time, no flood or tree damage.

Unfortunately VEMS does not recognize any of the files.

I increased fueling in the top three columns, top three load ranges & increased the WOT values slightly as well. I'll go for a ride later & see what it looks like. I think I've resolved the Logworks errors in IAT (comp, IC & airbox) scaling, so I should be able to evaluate that also. EGT is just off, I have to move the logging probe to the crotch of the header, where I have the EBP port. I don't really need to log EBP at the moment, I know my EBR is very good, and I'm not going to be running more boost than the current 18-20psi range until the VEMS is organized.

added an extra inlet & outlet bung to my can

so I can try a vacuum pump & not dump the outlet externally.

Inside of an SAS pump

I did a couple of pulls today with a vac/press gauge hooked to the crankcase breather outlet. Absolutely no pressure at at, even at 8K rpm. I may hook up a MAP so I can data log.

Did you tap the breather box for that or where do you tap in to measure?

I have a vac port on the back top of the can (inlet side), and also a vac port on the copper pipe running along the block (main breather vent pipe). Today I was measuring from the breather pipe port. I've never recorded any pressure in the can, so I figured I'd better check it closer to the crankcase. I can "T" into the vent off the cam cover as well, just to see what that is doing.

The problem with adding a pump, is the vent side could potentially pressurize the can, it pushes a decent volume. I'll just have to hook it up & see what happens.

I'm also going to redo my IC plumbing in 3", except for the hotside over the motor. Looking at putting a larger butterfly in the throttle body as well.
