Adam specifically says he can turn down the sensitivity of the knock sensors. That would lead one to believe that there is more to m4.4.

That not what Doug said - he said

"Adam is currently working on desensitizing my knock detection to help do away with my excessive timing pull issues"

I would not interpret that as a given.

I know Doug personally... we have chatted about this in person.

I have my head P&P'd and 3 angle valve job so that will help for sure. Log mani might be in the works.

The three angle valve job typically refers to the valve seat, not the valve. I had to request the valves be back-cut - I think he did 45/30º on the intakes, the exhaust were fine. Only minor deshrouding was needed on the ME7 head.

OK - so Adam actually told him categorically he can alter the sensitivity? That's not what he said in his post.

I'd still like to see some ME4.3 timing data logs, since no one with ME4.3 can actually log via OBDII, who knows what their timing looks like in actuality.

He said it may take a few tries, but has the ability to do this.

In that case I would much prefer to disconnect them altogether and hook up an advanced knock detection kit which is around 300$ but will let you know exactly what's going on (if you're going to take away some of the ECU's timing correction ability you better make sure that at least YOU know what's going on)

I do not believe changing the sensitivity is going to be a breakthrough in M4.4 tuning, but I could always be proven wrong. Still would prefer my method however.

Or tune on the dyno using a set of det cans which are more accurate and cost about 10 bucks...

Adam sent me his first attempt and it definitely had less timing pull. He then sent me another version with even less sensitivity, but I'm waiting for a new cap and rotor because I started having some misfires in boost and this happens every 6-8 months with the MSD 6A  I can't test the new tune until the car is running good otherwise. I'll keep you posted.

Is that something that can be shared with all TT owners? Stupid question... but how does this work?

That's nice but you'd have to trust you get exactly the same grade of gas every time you fill up. And not live in a place that sees large ambient temp swings. And hope you never get any kind of fuel pressure/delivery problem. I'll take something that can be used 24/7 to detect knock thank you! (and probably save the det cans for the dyno)

this got me thinking this morning. I should be able to hook up the knock sensors to the zeitronix for realtime datalogging. I'll look into it. I wish I'd thought of it earlier. I also need to figure out how to get engine load to the datalogger. I've got no idea since it's a calculation. if anyone knows the wire I should use. I've been scanning through the 850 wiring diagram and nothing is standing out because I guess I don't know exactly how engine load is determined. it seems like I would need something after the ECU maybe a wire that goes to the OBD connector?

IF your 850 is OBDII, you can extract load with something like the Innovate OT-1. If not that, you'll need an interface that can read the ISO 9141 EMS signals & display in your logging software.

The intent here is to get the car tuned. After that you can employ whatever electronic gizmo that you think will save you, provided it will interface with your given management system. I doubt the one you recommended will even interface into his existing system so it's irrelevant anyways.

Also, if ambient temp swings make your car detonate, you suck at tuning.

I have the same issue with the MSD6a. I just use a dremel with wire wheel to clean the rotor tip & cap contact posts. Works twice, in my experience.

I'll have to ask Adam about that, if I have issues after the head & COP install.

Stay away from OT-1. One of the biggest pieces of bloatware ever.

I know you said that back AFTER I purchased mine (since I didn't ask on here first), but it has worked just fine with the revised firmware.

I just bought an LMA-3 for a very good price, since I'm already invested in the Innovate products.
