Keep in mind Audi has what is arguably the best AWD systems in the world.  Then again I hope the Volvo's not like a scubby when it comes to Drag.

how much drag does the scubby have? It doesn't seem to slow mine down. subaru is also at the top with its AWD system. I'll take the V70R in a quarter mile win.

Even the WRX's system gets 26% loss, typically. Audi's DT is reported (from dyno tests) to be capable of losing only 15%, phenomenal for an AWD system. High Dyno DT loss for an audi quattro is about 20%-21%. That's what makes it so much better.

Subaru AWD typically adds 200lbs to the cars weight compared to if it was only FWD (like the old scoobys). The Audi only adds about 150lbs compared to their FrontTrak drivetrain.

Wanna talk about top end having teh suck on a Subaru?

Here's the best time slip I ever got in my '02 Sport Wagon

60: 1.905

660: 8.83

1320: 13.945

MPH: 94.59

Yeah, I posted a sub 9-second 1/8th mile and only ran a 13.94. Any other car would have run a mid-low 13, but if you look at my MPH, it's insanely low for that ET. Most cars woulda been over 100 mph.

Gosh, musta had something to do with the guy behind the wheel knowing how to drive the hell outta that car :)

hehehe.. yep. So true. Its a prime example of being fast becaue of traction ;)

Figure, the majority or RWD or FWD only cars running 13.9 are very close over just over 100mph to do it.

Not only traction, but I would powershift which would give me a few tenths. I was actually fighting traction on the front tires because it would get so light and I'd get spin. The STi has a LSD up front and it's easy to get 1.8 or even 1.7 short times because of it.

My buddy's stock STi ran a 13.37@100.56 the first time he ever went to the track, with a 1.77 60'. Sick, just plain sick.

NO MATTER WHAT WOULD HAPPEN THE 850 R STILL LOOKS LIKE A BOX WITH WHEELS AND ITS OUTDATED TIME TO GET A NEW VOLVO

First of all:

capslock.gif

Secondly, we're all very happy your mommy and daddy just bought you a new R, or maybe bought themselves one and let you drive it with your permit, but until you come up with an intelligent opinion (or at least find your caps lock key), don't waste our time..

Actually it's 308.. :D

About the comparison,

What are we talking here?

All 300 HP manuals, FWD for the older models or AWD for the older V70R model?

If all have an honest and strong 300 HP the 850R will come out on top at 155 mph.

The new R loses it's speed above 120 mph. Also the 3rd gear isn't as dramatic as the 850's 3rd gear performance.

850 probably loses a second to 60 but will gain 2-3 seconds to 125 mph.

i totally agree. (and not just because its johann ;) )

the 04 R models are a big laugh when stock. sorry to say that.

but even the ppc tuned models are not breath taking. they are very nice cars, but compared to an s4 biturbo tuned to like 320 horses.... :(

anyway: the suspension is brilliant (at least with shorter springs, cant say about stock springs), really brilliant.

We are assuming its a 5 speed 850, hello? :-P

Anyway, I was thinking on the ride home, in that almost-but-not-quite-rwd DSTC mode would there be more or less power train loss than normal?  Then would there be any drag?

....and a 5 speed 850R implies........TATATATA:

visco LSD!!!!!!! B) .

so off the line is a LOT better than with normal 850 T5 5 speed (which i had before)

To help you guy's

The weight of all cars incl C70 as giving in "autoweek", a dutch car magazine

Car trans make weight (kg) weight (lb)

850R M 1441 3177

850R A 1472 3245

S60R M 1589 3503

S60R A 1604 3536

S70R M 1424 3139

S70R A 1423 3137

V70R M <2000 1478 3258

V70R A <2000 1476 3254

V70R M >2000 1682 3708

V70R A >2000 1697 3741

C70 T5 M <1999 1478 3258

C70 T5 A <1999 1507 3322

C70 T5 M >1999 1453 3203

C70 T5 A >1999 1479 3260

See here the heaviest C70 in not even 200 lb heavier then the lightest 850R.

I should have the heaviest one but on my ownership paper it says 1465 kg or 3230 lb so only 53 lb heavier.

Tried to get a normal line-out, didn't work
