tchnprgrmr
public announcement from geely: "We want to be careful not to damage the Volvo brand," says Mr Shen, a US-educated former China head of Fiat's engine development and manufacturing unit, Fiat Powertrain Technologies. "We don't want the image of a luxury car made in a third world country [where labour is cheap]. We want the image of a European luxury car, albeit owned by a Chinese owner." The deal is expected to be signed before China's lunar new year holiday begins on February 14. If they keep to their word I have some hope that the new volvo's will go back to how volvo used to be, and move further towards an actual competitor to audi/bmw. esundell90
I'm not a fan of what's happened. I don't really trust the chinese, nor have I seen any car produced there to be of any quality. I've owned quality cars all my life, and I'm a firm believer that a good car comes from good R&D and good production. All my Honda's, my 850 have been testament to this. There great cars, serve me well, don't let me down, and are fun, safe and useful in addition to being efficient. All I've seen from Chinese cars is poor quality, poor safety, and un-inspiring to drive cars. I hope, that they'll just take a hands off approach and pay the bills and let volvo carry on as it always has, and not get their mitts involved in the cars too much. However, I still think the initial mistake lies with selling to Ford in the first place. If volvo wanted to stay volvo, they should have stayed independent. Look at Saab, they sold out to the biggest failure of a car company ever, and look what that got them, they should have stayed independent as well, maybe they would have done better (I FRIGGIN HATE with a Capitol H GM) my .02 hopefully nothing too crazy happens, and volvo's will still be the safe, practical, comfy Swedish houses on wheels they've always been. Chilled man
Personally I could care less , has anyone seen these new hideous turds that have been put out ? Only thing geely can do is make the cars better. Right now what ford did to them is fuck it up and make them look like total POS . Granted there is nothing new out there that I will want to buy in 10 years anyhow
