Will do; that being the obvious solution to the question. I had forgotten how much the Ross's cost me, to go that route again is $1171 ! Still waiting to hear back from Lars on the rods also. Just so I can drive myself crazy with more decisions, how much are you asking for one of your M conversion kits?

I looked back through the thread - at what point did the pistons also become an issue - I thought it was just the rods that suffered? I'd expect the stock pistons will be just fine. I'm using Mahle pistons in mine. The only reason I didn't buy from Volvo was lead time & the fact that the ring sets don't come with them.

I'd expect the stock pistons will be just fine. I'm using Mahle pistons in mine. The only reason I didn't buy from Volvo was lead time & the fact that the ring sets don't come with them. The pistons became an issue when the vertical scoring in #1 hole did not hone out to my liking, I used up the majority of tolerance and I could still see and slightly feel the imperfection in the surface. So, I'm going to pull the motor and bore it os2. Yes it would most likely clean at os1, but with the deal I got from BlackT5M, going os2 was the economical choice. EVERYTHING that is new going in well also be cryo treated.

Chilled man
i know, just the way you and adam went about it really. Im tired of Adam's shit too. its like a bickering match between the two of you in every thread. The best part neither of them have built a motor Dave has done next to nothing on both of his cars and adam paid someone to change his rods
Rsterns
How much is cryo treating? In the past I've used Cryoscience.com as my source. I just tried going to their website to get the exact prices for you, and the site is non-responsive. I'll check back later as I hope they are still in business. They are very reasonable. I did the entire motor for under $500. I know that brake rotors are $25 each and as I recall connecting rods are something like $7.50 ea. Other sources charge by the pound or a $100 minimum. The most important thing about Cryo treatment is to investigate the suppliers process. If they don't take 24 hrs to get to -300 deg F and dwell there for 24 hrs, then another 24 hrs to get back to ambient, you don't want to use them. Some places cheat the cycle time and don't go down to a full -300 deg F.

It might be cheaper and easier to just re-sleeve that cylinder and machine it to specs. you'd just have to get new rings and could use the current stock pistons... In fact, back home the volvo shops Ive been to always do it like this. The volvo pistons are a pita to source properly/get proper rings/etc so... Interesting thought, and I thank you for it; I already have 5 os2 pistons and a set of rings on the way. Re-sleeve or bore, the engine has to come out either way. I trust boring the original sleeve over re-sleeving. I'd just find another block before I did that, I've witnessed too many issues related to the process.
