Illinois - Peoria - Velde Lincoln Mercury Volvo

I was in a pinch as our car wouldn't start and they were the only shop, that I thought could fix the car, that could get my car into the shop at short notice. I had an appointment and took it in on a Thursday. I never received a call from them on Thursday, Friday, Saturday. I had to call for an update, which as it turns out, there weren't any updates. Finally, Saturday, with about 30 minutes left in the work day, the shop closes at noon, they finally started working on my car. Again, Monday, I had to call for an update at which point they told me that the issue was the MAF and they had to replace the spark plugs as they were fouled. This sounded reasonable to me, until they told me that the parts and labor was going to cost almost $900.

To me this was completely unacceptable. I found a replacement Bosch MAF online for less than $100, brand new. After finding that, I told them not to repair it and I would come pick it up.

Their communication with me, the customer, was completely non-existent. When I did speak with someone, they were insulting. The fact that I had an appointment and the car wasn't touched until a half hour prior to the third day ending shows a complete lack of respect for their customers. To top it all off, the MAF wasn't the issue, so their techs are unable to perform any kind of troubleshooting either.

There are other options in Peoria than Velde. I have had lack luster results from them on my S70, and previous 960's.

Kauth & Mayer does good work, they stock a large amount of BOSCH parts on hand. Their labor rate is usually more than a dealer, yet they can do the job in less time than the dealer.

John's Automotive is good. He is a former Volvo tech. Resonable labor rates, has most, or access to most Volvo tools. My experience is that he frowns on anything other than VOLVO parts. This isn't typically a bad thing, unless you purposly used something other than a Volvo part...

Last is Miller Automotive. I'd stop there for most routine stuff, complex diagnoistics tent to get a bit over their head. The usually get most of their parts from Velde, and thats about the only way I would get a Volvo part locally.
