indeed. i'm gonna be paying for all the bullshit that's gone on in this country the last few years. i simply have a problem calling every uninsured american lazy and unwilling to help their own situation. that's complete BS and the conservative movement does nothing but reinforce this and it's disgusting. trickle down is bullshit, our tax system is bullshit and i am behind anything that will help people to not suffer and die from treatable illness. our previous healthcare system was completely wasteful and profit-driven and it makes no sense to have an industry with an incentive to insure those who will not need medical care. i have no doubt this system will have its errors but it's a step in the right direction. i find it amusing people act like the constitution hasn't been completely shredded prior to this bill.

Cuz thats what we are, share holders in our govt, with a negative dividend. the services provided, while more than adequate, or provided at a much steeper price than the private sector.

The funny thing is, I saw an article about the numbers today, and the bottom line is that the hippy commie socialist version of healthcare we have in Western Europe does not only perform vastly better than the 'old' US system, it also costs about half in raw numbers. In terms of GDP, 10.2% (Belgium) vs 16% (US)

Higher life expectancy and quality of life go without saying.

I hate to give my money to the government as much as the next guy but I don't think anyone can disagree that the system that's currently in place in the US works efficiently on any level. Any amount of change should be welcomed. Even if it's a watered down compromised version that does little of what it set out to do.

Funny, about the only comment in this thread I agree with and it comes from a European. I was in the hospital for a total of 12 hrs in 2009 and the final cost was $47,000 (sadly both trips could be linked to someone elses action). Even with insurance, paying 20% is fucking ridiculous!!

Take for instance the policies of the ER's at many hospitals, which refuse care to no one, if they are willing to wait. What happens? They turn into primary care clinics for the uninsured, resulting in a completely inefficient model for those with actual problems.

Why can't we change the policy to allow refusal of care? Or black-list those who repeatedly come in for care that not an emergency? This decision would be based on some ruleset sorted out by a committee. Now I know someone's going to say it's crazy to let someone bleed in the streets because they will get turned away at the hospital because they couldn't afford ins. Which gets to the root of the problem, health care is stupid expensive, even for basic care. No one has any good ideas to force the health care industry to reduce their profit margins?

Any bill that has a nation divided should be a red flag. Obama hardly won the popular vote IIRC, and this health care bill was a pretty even split on the national polling. The next round of elections will show how the general public feels, especially as it will give some time for the implementation of a few components of this bill.

Claiming the private sector is out there to siphon money in any way works, but because of the free market, competition keeps prices reasonable. The problem is not "lazy" Americans or anything like that; it's more of American society experiencing a "lax" regulatory period and it got away from a lot of people. I would have much rather seen a Health Care bill geared towards the regulation of the health care, but nationalizing it was a little too much in my humble, still-developing, opinion.

Also...Swiss bank accounts...will we see a similar external health system set up on a swanky island somewhere for the elite? Partially kidding :lol:B)
