Tomcat'S 960 Project Thread.

Ok....finally an update.

Not had much money for a while now but I've managed to scrape a little together to get another mod done (albeit a small one)..

Not been a big fan of the original grill for a while as it was tatty and cracked etc, I noticed that a lot of the tuned 960's in europe have home made egg crate grills so I thought I'd have a bash at making one....

Starting point, shows how much difference there is between the 960 and the S60 grill (cheers Al). It's too wide by a couple of inches so I've removed the slash in readiness for cutting it up.

At this point I've cut the chrome surrond off the S60 grill and removed an inch or so from each end(ends are now plastic welded back on)

After marking out the outline and then cutting out the fins of the 960 grill I've plastic welded it in place and then used bridging filler to fill the gaps. After much more filling, sanding, filling sanding, priming, painting etc....

Paint is still drying yet and the slash needs clipping on as it's just sat on for the photo, will take a photo tomorrow after it's been fitted to the car (provided is still fits,lol)..

This looks great. I own both a '98 S90 and a '95 964 so I am very interested in your work.

I have one observation that may just be my bad eyesight or perhaps a fuzzy photo but it appears the side indicator light on the driver's side is mounted backward.

Cheers, not had time or money to do anything lately other than to replace the rear shocks that where knackered, back ends quite a bit lower now too after fitting the nivo leaf.

Now you gotta do something with the rear bumper.

V70R rear bumper will look good if it can be fit. :D

That's the next mod, I have a friend who's got one...hopefully he's keeping it for me (might try and get it this weekend). The only trouble with converting the rear bumper is once it's done it'll need the twin exhausts, lol.

Just checked back through the thread and realised that I'd not done the most recent updates so here you go...

I'm now running a nivomat spring (which is softer) with standard shocks and it is sitting lower, still not as low as I'd like but it's certainly an improvement on what it was before. Can't figure out however why the passenger side sits higher than the drivers side, only by a couple of centimetre's but it's still there and it's still bugging me.

No before pics but flick back through the thread to see how high it was before.

After:

Car's definatley a lot lower at the back now, much happier with it, also worked out what the hell was wrong with the passenger side, I'd undone one of the bolts (inboard) that holds the tie bars in place when I first looked at the car, I didn't realise I hadn't done it back up and upon closer examination it has a concentric washer on it to control the camber of the wheel. Still got a rattle from something but I think it may be the shocks I've re fitted that are knackered, if it rides ok for a little while then I'll look into getting some uprated shocks for the back.

Washed it today...

A lot of talent at work here! It is a work of art! I guess my '95 wagon will never look like that, however I love it just the same. B)
