spottieottie
I am just going by what I know in my career, Culinary Arts.Certified Master Chef is the highest of highs in our profession. FWIW, it would follow respectively Corporate Chef, Executive Chef, Sous Chef.Certified actually means there is a test and there can be Master Wok Chefs, and YES ha ha, Mater Bakers. I thought it was relevant, sorry for the off topic remarks.
JHEIII874T5M
I would expect the top ranking to be expert, however know otherwise
PyROTech
lets break it down "this really means dick all, but lets try"mastertech, expert, certified, quality-Mastertech, obiviously the master of the others, expert calls him master-the expert is the most experienced except for his master-the certified means he took some test, he was a "quality mechanic" before he took the test-quality means he is decent and the work is qualityok, thats my bullshit
theunderlord
They don't call the best carpenters "expert", they call them "master" I would expect the same for Auto Mechanics. Doesn't ASE call the best of the best Master?

AussieR
If someone said to me this is an "expert" i would expect that they were just trying to get my business, not that the 17 year old pimply kid actually had any kind of specific training, let alone Volvo specific. If you said Volvo mastertech then (to me) this would signify training & a high level of knowledge in that particular make. T501
Master should be highest followed by Certified followed by Over the Shoulder Bolt Jack and Loose Nut Behind the Wheel Fred . J/K about the last two.Expert and Quality sound generic. I wouldn't trust those titles. If I remember correctly you can be ASE Certified in one aspect of mechanics, for example eletrical, and be considered a Certified Tech. But only a Master if you have passed all certification tests. Engine, Trans, Frontline, HVAC, brakes, Electrical, Steering and rear end. Some of those are combined Certifications I just forget which ones. Flyby
Mastertech is definately the highest.... You can be an expert in something without being one of the best.
