I realize this is question depends on the person, but is rebuilding an engine something someone with fairly basic/novice car knowledge can tackle? I'm wondering if I should buy an engine lift and find a junk yard engine to build up in my own time, but I'm not really sure where I'd start. The most I've ever done is a PCV replacement - I haven't even done a timing belt change.

I saw this the other day on RSI and thought I might grab a set since there on sale, $89.99 each for h-beam rods.

They do that because you can use the same rods for the early S40 4 cyclinder engines.

I have 4 H-beam rods I can sell. RSI cannot match them to give you 5, already tried that last year.

So they sell them individual, but in sets of 5?

No, they can't match the 4 I have to give you a 5th for a white block build. I burned one up at the track last year.

They were from RSI, but from 6 years ago and whoever the vendor was, they aren't dealing with them anymore. Design is slightly different so they can't match for weight.

If you buy all the rods from them, they will sell you exactly what you need.
