Studs were stripped when I pulled my turbo had to cut em to get the downpipe off, then they broke off in the housing when I tried to take them out. May be relocating out there before the end of the year depending on how discussions progress. I've got 5 daughters in middle school and below, looking at schools and real estate - seems like Bainbridge Island may be a good choice. How bad is the commute by ferry? Jobs are in downtown Seattle with easy access from the ferry so it's really the ferry I'm curious about. Are we going to hate being dependent on the ferry? Trying to figure out if there are going to be other reasons we need to travel into Seattle and beyond other than for work and play. Also looking at Issaquah, Bellevue and Shoreline. The girls are in fantastic schools right now and if anything that is going to be the biggest sticking point as I look at this potential move. Any insight on the area would be useful. That said, I hope you can deal with the lack of sun for 75% (total generalization) of the year. It can be pretty depressing for a lot of people. IMO, dependent on the ferry is kind suck. I have no idea on the Shoreline area. Bellevue is more of city-esque setting. Issaquah is outside of the city so you will have much more room for the property lot. If you love outdoor than that would be a good fit for your family. goldponcho Posted May 1, 2014 Report Share Posted May 1, 2014 If you bike/walk on the ferry like I think Adam (adamjjohn203) does it won't be as miserable on a Friday as trying to drive a car on. Seattle's nice to visit, but I like how much calmer it is on my side of the water. Bainbridge seems quiet as well, but I've only spent a little time on the island, goofing around. Home prices might be more of a deciding factor for you. Have you looked into that? Excellent points. I'm curious how often the ferry runs late or doesn't run at all due to weather / rough waters. As for home prices, I've done a market check for each of the areas we'd be interested in and have found several homes that fall in our price point / match what we'd be looking for in # bedrooms, neighborhood, yard, etc. So I don't think finding a home will be the issue. I'm happy to rent a place for the first year if we can't find the right house up front and wait out the market for the right house. And if we did move to Bainbridge Island then I would definitely plan on leaving the car at home and only cross by foot since a shuttle will be available to get to the office from the ferry terminal. Zappo Posted May 1, 2014 Report Share Posted May 1, 2014 The traffic out of the city on a Friday afternoon is the worst. I know that the Edmonds and Mukilteo ferries typically have a 1 hour wait time on Fridays from May through October. Weather typically isn't an issue. Good move on just doing walk-on, as you won't have delay problems at all. Passenger deck is quite large. We did have a person who lived on Bainbridge Island, but has since moved to California and doesn't frequent VS much. It might be a bit too liberal out here for you, but at least it isn't Portland.
