FrankenMoose
Nice stab at ptown. At least we are the brewery capital in the country and less annual rain accumulation (both fact). Both True: but, it's also the most hipsters-per-capita. That out weights both of them.
Mossback
The traffic out of the city on a Friday afternoon is the worst. I know that the Edmonds and Mukilteo ferries typically have a 1 hour wait time on Fridays from May through October. Weather typically isn't an issue. Good move on just doing walk-on, as you won't have delay problems at all. Passenger deck is quite large. We did have a person who lived on Bainbridge Island, but has since moved to California and doesn't frequent VS much. It might be a bit too liberal out here for you, but at least it isn't Portland. We also don't have anywhere near the political corruption that you are used to where you are now. I really hate the property taxes in Portland, but the "death by a thousand cuts" city taxes aren't near as bad as soon as you get out of Multnomah county. No sales tax in Oregon either. I think the same lower tax rate applies once you're out of King county too..Car registration is a bit spendy in Washington, but I would like to not have state income tax. here's a WA taxation review with links http://www.city-data.com/forum/washington/113967-if-theres-no-state-income-tax.html
Burn-E
How much are property taxes in Portland? In Illinois they're very onerous. Where we live it's typically 2% of property value each year. Illinois also applies a 5% flat income tax on your federal gross adjusted income. And sales tax in Cook County is typically 8.5 to 9%. So net net sounds like it would cheaper for us potentially. Oh, and standard passenger car registration in Illinois is $101 so even with all the taxes in Seattle it's still cheaper. I'm starting to realize how expensive it really is to live in the NW Suburbs of Chicago.
Mossback
How much are property taxes in Portland? I couldn't begin to address it, Here's an explanation, its different depending on where your house was situated in 1997/1998. I was in a good neighborhood, high tax area in those days. Houses in the gentrified areas close in to downtown enjoy 1/2 to 1/3 of the rate I pay for a similarly valued house. http://www.jolynne.com/property-tax-portland.html

Mossback
Portland Jokes “Here’s a life hack for you guys: If you ever need to get your entire T-shirt and counter wet, wash a spoon.” —Tanner Hodgeson “Being sober in a nightclub is like being a journalist at war. You can blend in for a while, you can wear the outfit and hold the equipment, but the moment when shit goes down, you’re like ‘Uuuuuuuh, nope.’” —Peggy O’Leary “I was talking to girl and she was into me but she was drunk, and you’re not supposed to have sex with a drunk girls because that’s rape. So I just got drunker than her because that’s how morality works…. Watch out for the guys who just clapped at that. That joke’s called, ‘Where are the monsters?’” —Curtis Cook “Have you ever noticed that when you’re eating pizza with a group of friends, there’s always that one friend who volunteers to eat everyone’s crust? Next time, take a closer look at that friend, because they’re probably just a bunch of pigeons in disguise.” —Matt Ingbretson "I like reading the nanny ads in New York. ‘We’re looking for a Mary Poppins for our children.’ What a whimsical way to say ‘white’!” —Alice Wetterlund "Is anybody here who owns Voodoo Dougnuts?" (Nobody responds.) "Voodoo Doughnuts is pretty overrated.” —Kumail Nanjiani “Portland is a magic place, a dreamy place. A place where diagonal streets happen everywhere for no reason. ‘Hey, how do I get there? Oh, take seven rights.’” —Sean Cullen When asked about living in a van: “For starters, I have to choose all my beverages based on my ability to pee in their containers. I don’t know if you guys ever have to make that decision at the grocery store, sizing up a fruit juice. ‘Well, this is low in sugar, but can I pee in it?’ You want to go with a wide-mouth, 32-ounce Gatorade, not a 20-ounce Diet Coke. That’s not a dick joke, that’s just simple ergonomics. When you only have 54-feet of living space, it’s really important none of it is covered in urine.” —Dave Stone “All my friends thought I should do Internet dating. I think people who meet on the Internet and get married should be required by law, to use their username in the ceremony right there in the chapel. ‘Do you, Snapplicious69, take DonkeyKongSr, as your LOLBFF?’” —Dwight Slade

Kraske
Well, I'm running Debian so I doubt I have an unwanted plugin messing with me. I guess I'll chock it up to a bad connection. Maybe things will be better at home.
