Fake-R
Really? I beg to differ. On most of my highway driving, I'm holding 2.5 PSI at the minimum. During a pass, I hit full 10 PSI, and keep it there for a little while after. Maybe I drive less conservative than others... You make me not want to be on here anymore. !nooch!
On a long highway cruise, you really won't be boosting at all. Boost is not going to 'reduce the lifespan' of a properly maintained engine. It isn't like everytime you boost to 20psi instead of 18, you just shaved 1psi of compression off the engine. And lowering the maximum boost to a value lower than the tune was set for is going to cause you to run rich, loosing even more power, and wasting gas. that actually makes complete sense thanks for the advice and everyone else who posted something
Fudge_Brownie
that actually makes complete sense thanks for the advice and everyone else who posted something Glad it was helpful. If you are very concerned about engine damage, it's bending rods you primarily want to be afraid of. The best steps you can take include proper maintanence, preventative maintanence etc. You can talk to your tuner to ask for a 'conservative' or lower boost tune in order to decrease the risk of catastrophe. Unfortanately, there is no magic number that is safe or unsafe, and there is no way to quantify the level of safety you've achieved. You cannot say 15psi is safer than 16psi by a margin of 'x'. At least, not given the scenario we're dealing with.
