Today'S Civics Lesson

So in your experience, policemen are completely impartial in their duties, and apply the law equally to all citizens?

Yes, they arrest and fine many white people throughout their duties. They catch violators of the law [/end]. Now they profile without a doubt. Many would admit it (off record). Homeboy's getting the shakedown. We don't care if he's white, black, or latino, you walk with a limp and a tall t, you're getting a finger up your ass. If there was question on whether or not a violation actually occurred, or if it was a lie driven by racism, it might be another story.

It seems as though you agree that policemen enforce the law based on their own prejudices, but you don't see a problem with that?

So the guy "broke the law." Big deal. People break the law all the time. If this guy was wearing a Brooks Brothers suit, or was a woman carrying bags out of DKNY, it's a different story and you know it. Trouble is, so do the people on the receiving end of our 'justice' system. You can call them 'crazy wiggers' all you want, but they're lashing out for a reason.

So if the officer feels the violation was not worthy of a citation, they must roll the dice to decide if the violator is lucky today? No, you 'size them up' and decide based on the inputs available to you.

No, you 'size them up' and decide based on the inputs available to you.

Exactly. The "size them up" process is a big part of the problem. Left to my own prejudices, I would much sooner 'decide' that some pimp-limping, droopy shorts jaywalker merits a ticket, but a cute blonde chick in a sundress doesn't. It's understandable, but it sure gets old if you're constantly on the receiving end.

...then get off the receiving end. Loose the pimp limp and buy a belt.

On one hand, anyone with half a brain will know that cops are prejudiced against this sort of thing and should adjust their behavior accordingly. But on the other, why should they have to? "I don't like the way he looks" hardly seems the way to get the 'justice' ball rolling.

And I've been in the car with friends whose only 'crime' was DWB....It was news to me, but not to them. Old hat. How many times would you have to get pulled over for just being the wrong skin color before that stuff would get old?

That's my point. Taken at face value, as a one-off incident, I agree: Throw the book at these women. But it ain't a one-off incident. The white people in the room are the only ones who don't seem to realize it.

I tell you what... you keep fighting the system and sticking it to the man. I'll be the guy on the sidelines youtubing your ass getting rodney king'ed. Can I cite a recent single example posted here in the R forum by Justin? http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.php/topic/135188-wiggers/page__pid__1808507#entry1808507 If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck...

Sadly, racism still exists. And on occasion, a cop is purely racist, and bothering someone for the color of their skin. I encourage anyone who witnesses such an act to try their best to report it. Quality police officers don't want a racist douche messing up their reputation. On the flip side, I know non-minority people who have been pulled over, stopped, hassled, whatever you want to call it for no good reason. Myself included. I know a lot of quality police officers, but I've met my share of bad apples.

And a much deeper issue, to say "white people" don't realize it, also has it's own racial issues associated with it. Needs more colorblind. Think about it.

The "racial issue" involved is that most white people live in a bubble where they are generally given the benefit of the doubt from law enforcement and are dumbly oblivious to it. Color blind and color oblivious aren't the same thing.

I'm arguing that middle class america lives in that bubble, which, while statistically white, should not be referred to as a "group of white people". If you are a black father of 3 driving a benz and wearing the same brooks brothers suit mentioned earlier, unless you get pulled over by the Klan, I'm arguing that he is most likely treated the same as a white man in the same scenario. Given the same verbal warning.

And it's not true that they are given the benifit of doubt. Especially in predominately middle class towns where white yuppies are the majority. The police are just looking to enforce the more popular crimes with that demographic. Without having stats handy to base this on, off the cuff examples might be DUI, junior operator law violations, speeding during the morning commute, and now hands-free or txt while driving violations.

I agree with that, and it's real progress for us because it certainly wasn't true even 20 years ago. It is, however, usually white people who are so oblivious on issues of race. Even middle class black people who get the same benefit of the doubt from the police are aware that they had to EARN that benefit of the doubt. White people just take it for granted.

What is still sadly true is that cops pick on weak people, whether they're black, poor, whatever, just because they know they can get away with it. No way the cop in this video punches a cute blonde girl in the face.
