I don't think it's useless, when it is used as intended, but when you have users do a -1 just because they don't like someone and act like a boy in puberty thats when the rating system is a failure or should I or what they said or abuse it

are you guys seriously worried about who voted for whom for homecoming? :P whaaaaaaaaaaaaa there's a system that people abuse to e-pick on me.

Things like the rep system only have power or even matter when people take the time to use and observe the system. if you're someone like me who just don't give an eff that it's even there, and for 6 months didn't even realize it existed after it was implemented, it has little bearing on any aspect of your forum experience.

I would have to agree somewhat. It is kind of like the ebay rating. As far as buying and selling is concerned. That would be a useful rating system we could do with. That way you know if you are dealing with somebody who is trustworthy with payments and getting items out on time and such,

This is true, however here its applied to the whole board, so the ratings have NO BEARING whatsoever on the dependability of the seller or the quality of what he's selling you. Saying someone was a bad seller because they have a bad rep on here would be like saying that someone is a ricer just because they drive a honda. It's ridiculous.

Dave's reputation blows because generally speaking, he is a cockfaced douchebag on the forums. He hasn't been too bad lately though. Maybe getting married straightened him up a bit? Outside of the internet, he's a good guy.

Keep in mind the purpose of the rep system is not for buyer/seller feedback. There is a dedicated forum for that (albeit, somewhat underutilized). My understanding is that it's a post rating system, which in turns effects your overall reputation. If you make shitty posts people don't agree with , your reputation will be shitty.

There I fixed it for you

I love the rating system. I was REALLY skeptical at first, and it certainly has large pitfalls. But after a while, I realized the benifits outweigh the negatives. I find the people who complain the most about the rating system have low ratings, and usually were rightfully earned. It's a shame to see it abused, especially since the OP of this thread is one of the worst offenders, but you just have to remember that rating system isn't the end all. This isn't kindergarden, don't get all bent out of shape over a few lost points. IMO, be a good person, post as that good person, and in time, your rating will be positive. It's like post count. It isn't the sole metric to determine who is a quality member, but it certainly can help influence your decision/opinion. The rating adds to that.

Keep in mind: The rating system is not purely for determining if a person is a reliable seller. It also isn't the only factor that should go in to determining if someone's advice should be taken, or if I should suspend them for 1 day or 10

Also, don't get your hopes up about it leaving any time soon. I'm pretty sure the person who loves the rating system the most is the big guy. I hate to speak for him, but he's off getting tattoo quotes

My least favorite part about the rating system is that I can't use it in mobile view! ><
