That car's engineer is in a class of his own imo, and was probably not one person. I'm not sure If I will get that in depth. maybe someday
Tex©
I have been working on porting my code to linux, primarily because I moved to linux a couple years ago, but I've just been accustomed to visual studio. I'll let people know when the linux version is done. I do know the pain of switching to Linux (still trying to do that now) so now that I know you will probably look into it I can say w00t *runs away with arms flailing in joy* Doubt that'd happen. If he's written and debugged his code well, it won't BSoD unless a hardware failure occurs; in which case Linux would just kernel panic. The issue with OS X is that in order to use all of the standard languages (i.e. c), you have to install the toolchain & compilers from MacPorts or Fink, as the version of GCC included with XCode doesn't seem to play nicely with non-Apple Encoded C files. Plus, a Hackintosh is even less stable than a PC, unless he's going to fork up for a Mac Mini or a MacBook which are both 2x the price of the Asus netbook he's using now. First off It was a jab at windows in general I have used windows for a long time but the one thing that always seems to be a constant in windows is I need to format it 1 a year if i'm lucky. And yes I do like windows 7 for a lot of things but I still would never pay to put anything windows related in a car and yes you are also correct about windows not bsoding unless something with the hard ware is fubar (or M$ pokes up and releases an update that breaks the system o wait didn't they do that in widows XP?) also I still think the program created by faultyGTR wouldn't fail its windows its self that would fail from something I didn't do or did -end of small rant

xerio
I'll admit. I don't own a volvo. I'm a CRX fan. But I've been looking at doing something like this in my rex for a long time. I just haven't had the resources. And I was looking to do a few different things. But I won't mention those. Don't want you getting there before me. Lol. But yeah. Congrats on making Hackaday(where I saw this). Could you by chance tell me what relay you're using? And what's the physical size of it? I'm looking for a relatively small sized relay. Small enough to fit about 12 of them in a pretty tight space. Any ideas?
Trikk
Ben. Seriously. Make me one. I'll cry I will be that happy. Cassie, if he made you one, you'd just crash your Volvo again, and all the work would be ruined What was the program coded in? How'd you interface it? I saw this off Hackaday, hella good job. How'd you interface it? I saw this off Hackaday, hella good job. hardware is coded in PICBASIC, netbook software is coded in VC++. I wonder what the hackaday people would say if they knew I was 20 years old, working at chuck e cheese and texas roadhouse

TM850R
Very clean! I love how people on Hackaday are knocking the Windows OS for the BSoD. I dont think they completely understand that even if you got a BSoD while driving, its not like you have to start your car again. All that you will be missing are some added gauges and a pretty lady. Keep up the good work.

Keep up the good work. Yeah exactly. Most of hackaday's readers are just trend followers anyways. They don't really know about how some of the higher tech things work. Note I said "most"
