Awesome job man! One question though. What happens if you lock the doors while you are in the car driving?

Nothing. The control box can tell when the car is running, and if it is running, it will ignore the door locks.

Thanks everyone, Yeah, I was reading hack a day the other day and figured for I crapped my pants and I love how it feels and giggles I would send a link to the video and this thread.

I got this email back a little later:

Ben,

This looks great. I'm working on a feature for hackaday but I could use a bit more information.

Can you tell me about the computer? IE: are you running Windows, what's in the project box (microcontroller?... I see a relay, etc).

Our readers love to know what when into it. Anything you can share is appreciated. If you get back to me soon I think I can get this posted this afternoon.

Thanks,

-Mike Szczys

Sent him all that I wrote, and he put it up today. So yeah, i'm pumped it's starting to get some recognition outside of volvospeed

Doubt that'd happen. If he's written and debugged his code well, it won't BSoD unless a hardware failure occurs; in which case Linux would just kernel panic.

+1 to above...

I would go for OS X first though... integrate with everything else I have.

The issue with OS X is that in order to use all of the standard languages (i.e. c), you have to install the toolchain & compilers from MacPorts or Fink, as the version of GCC included with XCode doesn't seem to play nicely with non-Apple Encoded C files. Plus, a Hackintosh is even less stable than a PC, unless he's going to fork up for a Mac Mini or a MacBook which are both 2x the price of the Asus netbook he's using now.

I have been working on porting my code to linux, primarily because I moved to linux a couple years ago, but I've just been accustomed to visual studio. I'll let people know when the linux version is done.

Hi jimmy.

My hardware uses USB HID class so no drivers are required. That netbook i bought two years ago as a refurb for $200. It's been through hell and back and just keeps going. I have never had anything like a bsod or the sort. The only problems I've had with it were because I upgraded to Visual studio 2010 after re-instaling windows 7 on main laptop, which broke functionality on the EEE. removed 2010, and installed VS2008 and everything was kosher again.

That works. VS2008 is fine for stuff like this. That's what I've used. Windows is plenty stable. My college has 2010 installed in the same lab we do 2008 in, and it's just a mess trying to keep both classes happy. The fact that all of the machines use DeepFreeze doesn't help either, but that's another story.

I'm still not unblocking you on facebook.

I don't expect you to. We have our differences and most likely always will. I'm not an easy person to get along with, so you're not the first one to hate me. Hell, I hate plenty of people. Hence why my block list has over 50 people on it, only 10 are from VS.

^This^

Sadly, I even +1'd you both for those comments.
