Sas (Air Pump) Delete....write-Up With Pics

Well I soldered in a new diode in my ECU between pins 32 and 37 w/ the band on the diode towards pin 37, bypassed the solenoid w/ a 33ohm resistor, unplugged the air pump and guess what CEL comes right back on w/ P0410 code. If someone can explain how to attach a pic I'll post a pic of the ECU.Any more ideas on this?

I just completed the ECU mod, unplugged the air pump, plugged up the vacuum tree and get 410 immediately after engine start. So I checked the resistance at the solenoid and it is 0, nada, zilch. I guess that was my primary problem as the 410 is a code that wasn't present when I bought this junker.

I really don't like to cut wires, but if I put a 33ohm resistor between the 2 wires that go to the solenoid, will that fix me up? My soldering skills are shy of 'novice' and I just hope I didn't cook the the diode between pins 32&37.

I have a 98 Volvo S70 T5. My air pump quit working about 4 years ago and I've been getting P0410 Secondary air injection system malfunction. This year, I could no longer pass an etest in Ontario, Canada if the secondary air system showed a fault so I decided to try the air pump delete method. I've soldered an N4005 diode directly into the ECU.

After about a month of driving I was able to go all the system to "ready" status and successfully passed the etest yesterday. It appears that the ECU thinks that the air pump is operational. Thanks VolvoSpeed forums for this great write-up. This saved me a lot of trouble.

PS. The P0410 code has not come back and no check engine light!

Thanks for posting . I was actually just wondering this, as I have the delete done in mine and was concerned about the readiness being set for Ontario's new e-test method.

  • 2 weeks later...

pumps unplugged soldered it right next to my 98s ecu that the mod is working on check the resistance of the solenoid right now but i already ordered the resistor anyway off ebay just curious to see if the the solenoid alone going bad could cause the code.

i reset with a scanner and it came back i also reset by puling the ecu for a couple seconds. might be worth noting my ecu had no numbers on the white plastic to count the pins.i just counted the pins and did the exact thing i did to the 98 na cars ecu.

also the pump is slightly different than the on on the 98 the 97 pump has one blue wire that goes to the connector and the black wire goes straight to ground on a bolt.
