Underage Drinking

OK, this is not going to turn into a "don't drink and drive" discussion.

I want to know, what do people think about 16+ year olds drinking? Lately I've gone into this state of mind where I think no one under 21 should be drinking <_< which really strikes me as weird, yet I can not seem to be comfortable while drinking as I can not justify it in my mind. I think "oh it's illegal, I shouldn't do it" or something along those lines.

Anyone here agree/disagree? Have their own views?

If they are with family, I don't really see it as that big of a deal, but otherwise I am totally against it. Drinking is probably the most overrated thing ever, right behind having kids. :) :P

I remember here we were on some kind of school excursion when I was 15 and when we stopped for a drink pretty much everyone had beer...teachers were ok with it...

generally speaking its ok to drink here from 13-14-15 yrs...and I personally dont know any alcoholics...

all this age crap is rediculous if you ask me.

Well I grew up in a family that on certain occasions would drink good wine. So I grew up respecting alcohol.

In high school I never drank. Once I got to college I did, and I liked it. I mean I am no alcoholic or anything. I don't need a drink all the time.

The age thing, well I think 18 should be the age however I am 21 so what does my comment matter anyways. Kids are going to drink if they want to, that is the thing.

I used to think that it should be 18. Like smoking, military, etc. But once I got a little older, I began to look back and see how immature I was back then.

However, I know that it's more accepted overseas, and they don't have a large problem like the US does, so maybe lowering the age might work. Takes away the fun of breaking the law.

How about anyone who wants to drink under 21 has to join the military? That way they make you grow up, the nation gets your service, and you can drink :P

I think me and my friends started doin some drinking when we were 16, but we were smart about it (well about as smart as 16 year old can be) We definately didn't go rip around town drunk or anything.. ususally just sat around a buddies house drinkin 40's of Mickeys Ice... trying to stave off boredom.. So no, I don't nccessarily think it's a bad thing.

not really a big drinker... never really had a strong desire to get "wAsT3d Yo!" before 21 and still. Its fun to have a couple cocktails with the gf and friends my weekends dont revolve around it.

hmmm, I just feel guilty when I drink ;) odd but true, unless I'm with family or my parents approve of it. <---- goody two shoes here lol. I guess I'm just trying to justify it in my mind, however I agree with everyone here in that it's just a matter of doing so responsibly

i started drinking at 15 and now that im 19 its boring. id rather not wake up feeling like total crap and waste a day laying around. This is a tough topic cause it all depends on the person. My mother was born and raised in Holland and alcohol was never a big deal to her nor was it ever in my house and i just dont find the need to throw up everytime i have a drink. i have friends whose parents think its the devil in liquid form and their kids drink by themselves????? what? i also find it odd that the kids whose parents dont allow them to drink are more likely to drink and drive becuase they are afraid to call their parents to come pick them up from a party. when im a parent im sure as hell going to let my kid know, just as my parents did to me, that if they drink and need to leave they can always call me first and no questions will be asked. you just have to be smart if you make that choice.
