sconeman
VADIS lists a seal inside that - same # as on the exhaust cam. The '03 head I bought had a seal on the cam, and then the outer cap. Ok I thought that was a little weird.. Like that from the factory or lazy tech ?.. as I was puncturing the cap to get it off It started oozing oil. I though oh well I'm going to need a cam seal there. And oh look..no seal at all.

The head I'm using only had the outer cap

BlackT5m
hmm, haven't looked yet. I'll check it out tomorrow. Let me know when you encounter this roadblock so we can both be frustrated. Did the 99 and 00 s70 use a different subframe then the 98?

Johann
Ok I thought that was a little weird.. Looking at the picture that head still has the machining done to receive a seal. Later engine's don't have that anymore and the area where the seal should go has a larger diameter. ozzimark
And oh look..no seal at all. Yeah, mine was the same way. I thought it was rather odd. It makes sense though, a static seal is much easier and much more reliable than a dynamic rotating seal.

Until they blow out from excess CC pressure - pretty common on redblocks - they used the same seal in the back of the head of B230F motors installed in 240 series (dist in block instead of back of the head)
ozzimark
I'd rather blow that easy to replace cam seal than something like the RMS though :o

Unfortunately these motors just start puking oil from the front seals :o

I didn't have any issues with the front mount on the '00 engine, but I looked at an '01 today in the shop and it does have a different mount bracket on the engine that has the hole for the hydraulic mount shifted to the drivers side. I would say use the mount bracket from the '98, but according to Black T5M it won't bolt to the '02 engine?

Yeah, the mounting holes don't match up as far as I remember or only a couple and they are different sizes.
BlackT5m
Hopefully someone who has completed this swap will chime in on how they dealt with the motor mount. Worst case I'll have to machine one but I'd rather not.

Worst case I'll have to machine one but I'd rather not. my plan is to drill and tap that blank section. They just left the old block of material there. I have to measure to make sure but I did a quick compare to the 850 engine and it seems to be in the correct location if you mount it as shown.
