Realistic Sale Price For 98 S70 T5m Black On Black

My 01' S40 with 130,000 sold in October 09' for $5900. This was with a ton of mods and all maintenance up-to-date. I then turned around and bought the Laser R' which had 84,000 for $5500.

Ballpark now that i'm seeing is anything up to 130,000 going for 5K+. Anything over 130K seems to be below 5K, depending on condition, much lower than 5K.

If its pristine and you have full service history expect more from an enthusiast, but i'm afraid KBB on a 98' even in excellent condition is under $3500.

I'm sure you were browsing all the Southern California craigslists and car dealerships 1-2 years ago right?

As a matter of fact I've been looking across the entire country over the last two years at 98 SVC 70s.

So yes, I feel quite safe in my assertion.

No S70T5M sold for 7k 1-2 years ago if it had 200k miles on it. With 100k, you might be correct. But otherwise, there's no way.

Just curious but say it is in pristine condition with tons of service records and receipts, would the high mileage still limit what the seller could ask for?

It's a fair question but see what I mentioned in my second post on this thread. Papa Kirlo who has a similar attitude toward his cars as you have Aaron - anal about maintenance - and his 98 with 250k on it couldn't sell for $3500. It sold for $3000 to an enthusiast.

Ah, I completely missed that reply of yours. I see, so solid maint. records and upkeep habits are a huge plus but only to a point is what you're saying? When a car gets up there in mileage, I mean.

The resale on these cars has pretty much taken a dive in the past year.

I bought my platinum in May of 09 for $2900 with 121k and thought I got a stellar deal on it. It's not perfect by any means, but it's at a full stage zero and everything on it is spot on mechanically. I'd be looking at getting $2k for it now with 170k on it. I'd be stupid to get rid of it. I recently changed my coverage to pl/pd with comprehensive for the deer, it's not at beater status but I'm not putting full coverage back on it or investing any money into body work.

I see a lot of high priced ones on CL, but they're just your typical shady used car guys flipping something they found somewhere. But, this is in Michigan where there aren't many foreign cars and some people seem to think they're gold. Private sellers are selling 96-98 turbo cars for around $2k in all sorts of condition.

An extremely clean car with all the service records will fetch more cash, but at the end of the day it's still a 13-15 year old car.

That one guy on here sold his base 95 850 with 200k+ on it for over $3k. If you hold out long enough the right buyer will come along.

thanks for the input gang, i paid 5K for it a few years ago with 169K on it. it was in great shape with great service records, and he threw in the snow tires which were one season old at the time. i think like was stated, its not even worth selling now, i think i just need to ride it into the ground. I should look at dropping my coverage on it, could save me a few bucks, i think im pretty maxxed on it right now. Honestly hasnt cost me TOO much to keep going. Just never sure where to draw the line on repairs...any suggestions? keep repairing until something like the trans or engine goes?

I would just drive it till it breaks at this point, My dad paid 4000 for a 94 850 turbo with 156k back in 03 the transmission went out the next day because we found out the owner powershifted it and raced it on the track after the fact. We were going to junk it but their was a euro shop that the owner just had a customer who snapped his timing belt at 141k and had the tranny sitting there. Dad bouth the tranny from him with a complete install price of 1500. The car has 400k on it today and still running today, orignal engine and turbo. 0bviously my dad made the right choice and the car owes him nothing. Sad to say but what does these motors in is modding them otherwise they last a long time

OK, sorry to bump an old thread, but i have come to a crossroads with my car. Pretty literally all of a sudden, as i was about to do my timing belt at 214,000 two other things are occurring. First, the clutch is slipping a bit and now the pedal comes up higher than ever to grab the gear. second, my Tracks and ABS lights keep coming on. they go out when car is restarted, but most days, the abs can be heard winding out then the lights come on. i have seen the common issue mentioned on here about the module itself being an easy replacement and there is someone who does it routinely for relatively cheap. now, my mechanic has quoted me the following

timing belt with aux belts and water pump - 875ish

new clutch parts and labor - 1400ish

i got those same prices, from my usual garage and another well known one in my town

no idea on price for ABS

i think im going to sell, or trade in if i can negotiate the balls off the salesman and get something remotely fair for it.

thoughts?

$140 for OEM belt and two pulleys

$129 for OEM pump

$18 for multirib belt

$269 for a OEM clutch kit

$559 in parts. at most lets add in fluids, this that and another...$900 in parts... we cant have $1275 in labor..

DIY timing belt 5 hours, experienced guys 2-2.5hrs

Trans should take 5 hours to do on a lift. One day in and out.

Matty moo should be able to rebuild the abs for $75 max.

get a new mechanic. you getting raped. on another note...craigslist it and start at $2000. tell them what is wrong in the ad and go from there. trade in will net you $1000 tops, or they will "show" you more but thats included in the bump on the price of the car.

Find a VS'er local to you. Those are all jobs that can be done in an afternoon, and being in MA I am sure someone isn't far away.

RE: the ABS module. Send a PM to Matty Moo on VS, the ABS module is an easy fix and not expensive. He'll take care of you there.

well, i know they monkey you on trade, but im pretty well versed in their tricks and would be certain what im getting for the vehicle and the bottom line sale price of a car. i dont play the "well what do you want your payment to be?" I'm dumb.

as for the repairs, maybe its worth a few calls, im least worried about the ABS, thanks for the tips on that repair. as for the other stuff, anyone have a good garage which wont rape me in the eastern, MA area? North of Boston
