Guest DougK
I would be interested and willing.I've been wondering if we can use the hall sensor in the cam position sensor on the exhaust cam to act as a spark trigger? If this is the case, full stand-alone may be $400 or so away, including nickel and diming...I'd be interested in something to interact with the Motronic system though, and something to modify the values it works off of would be killer too.If I get another 850 soon (which is my aim right now), then I could very easily start experimenting with getting Megasquirt 'n Spark working... Which IMO would be outstanding. School starts up again for me in a week or so, but hopefully I'll have another fairly relaxed semester.←Eric I (along with the guys at 034) are thinking its possible. jross
I might have a spare-ish 4.3 ECU soon. How do we pull the BIN files off it?

EOBD
Sky is the limit when it comes to getting one.I have a really good one for some elaborate devices. But for this sort of work you can use something as simple as the Willem Programmer. If you search on ebay there are always people selling them on their. One example is hereWillem programmer on ebayIts going for $45.I use one for this sort of work cos it plugs into my laptop, runs off +12v, and gives me mobility where required. EOBD
When you open your Motronic unit you will find the 28F512 flash chip. Some later units had a 28F010 chip. Some really early ones had 27C256 chips. The later two chips are 32 pin devices, where as the later one is a 28 pin device. You can fit them to ANY board because the boards are designed to take either. The limiting factor is the firmware. The larger pin devices are because the firmware grew for emission stuff and OBD2. Therefore the more code requires greater memory space. The square shaped chip directly below the 28F512 flash device in the image is a NAtioanl Semiconductors microcontroller. From what I have read so far they seem to be used for analogue to digital, or specific functions, so I will need to find out what.

BlackT5
Just wondering if this was still going on?I pulled my ECU yesterday, and you are correct. It uses the 32 pin device. This ECu has been "chipped" by Upsolute, i'm currently looking for another ECU to play around with.
Turbo Brick
EOBD, I am very busy right now, but I would be interested in learning how to program the Motronic 4.3/4.4 EMS. Oh, and I already have a website setup for this..: http://www.volvotnt.com :D
BlackT5
After searching on the web for possible tuning solutions, here's some info I found.I came across a site where the guy had his car (98 V70 LPT) tuned on the fly via laptop. This is tuning the stock motronic 4.4 ECU. He said:"The ROM chip in the CPU box has to be removed and replaced with a socket andone new programmable chip. The new chip will accept the original program andlet the operator through an interface to the PC adapt, re-program the newchip online while running on a dyno or on the road.""The new chip in my ECY is an AMD type AM29F010B - 70J1 0212 MVM G as far as I can read, with 7x9 legs, photos enclosed. You see there is mounted a new socket to handle the original one soldered into the print. The hardware to change data is a piece of wire and adaptor, which goes in between"Now of course, this seemed very exciting and I wanted to know more...Tuning was done by "Claus" at Turbocenter in Stockholm www.turbocenter.seI contacted him and was told:"I did use one emulator with trace function , the software and emulator is from Germany. The name of the software is Digiview and the emulator is called Emu 4. You can look at it at www.cswi.deI did for app. 9 years ago pay 13000 usd for it .Today is it possible to buy good emulators with trace and a working software for appr. 3000-5000 usd.If you like working in HEX without trace does one emulator cost mayby cost 300 usd."some pics I received:
