give me a cry for river if anyone think white is being discriminated in United States. Racism still exist regardless of the population % in this country is gradually moving to other ethnicity other than white. Those who are in control and have the power are white. It only took 200 years when you see Obama as the first black president. It will take another 100 years until you see another ethnicity become president of United States. By then, China will take over.

I never really understood the point of scholarships based solely on need. If a student shows merit and need, give them a scholarship, but if the student shows no merit at all, but still shows need they get all the money. I know I try to apply for scholarships and I am eligible for probably 2 out of 100, since they all have either race, gender, or home location requirements.

Why can't I say I have a good GPA, give me money?

That's not how it works. You have to have a bad GPA, so we can pretend the reason your GPA sucks is because your poor. Naturally, the only way you could achieve a beter GPA is to throw money at the problem and keep you in school. If you have a good GPA, you must be one of those privileged rich folk, so stop asking for more help.

I met many fucktards who enjoyed free rides or close to free rides who didn't deserve to even be in a school. Its disgusting.

While scholorships will always discriminate... whos to say a black man cant get a white scholorship and visaversa.

So long as they do not ask for photos they will never know, I had a white friend get a naacp scholorship for submitting an essay on slavery.

They did not find out untill a year later.

Goes the same with how guys have gotten scholorships from wemon rights groups without them knowing.

Distinguishing anyone by the color of their skin is the true basic source of racism. Stop seeing color and racism goes away.

We're all just different shades of tan. There's poor tan people, dumb tan people, rich tan people, educated tan people, and some tan people LOVE chicken. Other tan people read the New York Times. Some tan people live in Africa, and some tan people live in Russia.

But giving a kid a scholarship for being color X is just as racist as a scholarship for color Y.

Recognizing that someone is from disadvantaged ethnic group Z is very racist, because you're calling them disadvantaged for having a certain ethnicity, and treating them specially because of it. Give them a scholarship for being poor or having crack-addict parents. Who cares what color?

Agreed. Affirmative action and any kind of scholarship that gives preferential treatment based on race is the definition of racism. A white kid not getting in because the school needs to meet a "minority quota?" Racism. A white person getting a job over an equally qualified black person? Racism.

What is unfortunately flying over everyone's heads is that minorities are under-represented in both higher education, the workforce, and access to resources in general due to our historical and sytematic past discriminatory laws governing the country. In in America, the ruling class speaking in an encompassing and overall societal context (otherwise know as being white or caucasian) created these inequalities in the first place.

Again, this all exists because those who have access to resources (best colleges, jobs, opportunities) are not an equal representation of the racial and ethnic mix of our society.

So you're saying the solution to a racist history is more racism? We need statistical representation until we can stop affirmitave action?

If you can't get your vocabulary right, there is no point in continuing the conversation.

Hit the nail on the head. Those that have been discriminated against are also at an economic disadvantage. Whereas most white or Caucasian families have had generations to accumulate wealth, which in turn allows for more opportunity, most minority groups in the broad scheme of things are just catching up because their ability to function in working society was limited.

Scholarships exist to level the playing field, but that certainly does not mean groups cannot sponsor white scholarships either. Minority scholarships are more beneficial if we are to work on becoming a true democratic society however, so the idea of a white scholarship is a little ridiculous. American society still caters to the white population in many discrete ways.

Are you really that pretentious?

I'm as down to Earth and humble as you can get. However, if you can't understand the difference between racism, prejudice, discrimination, and stereotyping and use the terms appropraitely to prove a point, it will be hard to get what I am trying to say across to you.

Giving someone something because of their skin color isn't racism? That's new to me.

Speaking of merit-based admissions, according to a Mclean's article, white students also resent having to compete against the highest achievers of them all--Asians.

Provocative Excerpt from said Article:

"That Asian students work harder is a fact born out by hard data. They tend to be strivers, high achievers and single-minded in their approach to university. Stephen Hsu, a physics prof at the University of Oregon who has written about the often subtle forms of discrimination faced by Asian-American university applicants, describes them as doing “disproportionately well—they tend to have high SAT scores, good grades in high school, and a lot of them really want to go to top universities.” In Canada, say Canadian high school guidance counsellors, that means the top-tier post-secondary institutions with international profiles specializing in math, science and business: U of T, UBC and the University of Waterloo. White students, by contrast, are more likely to choose universities and build their school lives around social interaction, athletics and self-actualization—and, yes, alcohol. When the two styles collide, the result is separation rather than integration.

Although university administrators here are loath to discuss the issue, students talk about it all the time. “Too Asian” is not about racism, say students like Alexandra: many white students simply believe that competing with Asians—both Asian Canadians and international students—requires a sacrifice of time and freedom they’re not willing to make. They complain that they can’t compete for spots in the best schools and can’t party as much as they’d like (too bad for them, most will say). Asian kids, meanwhile, say they are resented for taking the spots of white kids. “At graduation a Canadian—i.e. ‘white’—mother told me that I’m the reason her son didn’t get a space in university and that all the immigrants in the country are taking up university spots,” says Frankie Mao, a 22-year-old arts student at the University of British Columbia. “I knew it was wrong, being generalized in this category,” says Mao, “but f–k, I worked hard for it.”

And of course some of you must have seen UCLA's Alexandra Wallace rant on youtube:

And then there's this:

I'm not trying to stir the pot here, but I do believe that people ought to focus more on finding solutions for themselves when it comes to building their future, instead of focusing on the could've-would've-should've scheme of things too much.
